Depending on what your comfort level is paired with the severity of your issue is how you should decide what you want to do.
Group therapy is great if you need to be able to see that you are not alone and feel comfortable enough to express yourself in front of others. It can be very supportive. On the other hand, one on one counseling offers you your own personal time to dig through your issues and be able to work them out in a personal way.
Personally, I would suggest doing one on one first so that you become comfortable expressing your issues, and then later on try doing both. Have your one on one for one day of the week and your group therapy on another. This way you can get your personal time that focuses only on you, and then get support from others as well as the feeling of not being the only one through the group therapy.
Ultimately the descision is yours. Just make sure you are doing what makes you most at ease and feel heard and helped. Best of luck :)

It is the matter as stake that determines whether a group/one to one counselling is recommended. Personal issues that infringe on ones image/integrity.character are best handled one to one but that that involve others or affect others in a relation eg husband & wife or two people in a dispute / quarrel are best resolved in a group counselling. It is very good as it helps one bare his/her mind before the person you have grievances with and then resolve it face to face.

It can feel so simple to spot problems and causes in another person as they sit and talk.
But, it can be oh-so-hard to identify the same problem within ourself. In group counseling there is opportunity to observe, to participate, and to interact while being coached by the Counselor.

One-on-one Counseling can be a little more personal and dig deeper as you feel less embarrassment to speak of your intense feelings or you speak of your memories of abuse or trauma. The Counselor coaches you, and as it's just the two of you in the room, it's somewhat easier to speak your answer or to ask what you don't understand.

Each kind of counseling has its place. It is important to know that with both types, all members agree to keep confidential what is spoken of during a session for your privacy.
