Parents of Asperger Children:?!

Question: I have Asperger Syndrome:
What are some things I can do to help me with my motor skill development?
I have huge sensory problems, lights, noises, textures etc. What can help me with those?
Have you tried the GFCF diet? What about a different diet?
Thank you

Hi! I am a sister of a 13 year old boy with asperger. I don't know if I can help you, as my brother isn't particularly bothered by bad motor skills, but he has problems with listening, and he hears noises louder than others.
He is, however, on the GFCF diet, and has been on it since august. I have to say that I haven't seen any change in him at all, so I don't think it has worked at him at least.
But I do know about a girl who had autism. She was 3 years old, and had no language and could not walk. After 6 month on the GFCF diet she could walk a short distance and talk a little.
I guess it's different for everyone:)

whats that

smaller words please lol jk

Do you look up to Heather from ANTM?

Diets are good for nothing.

yeah i have heard of this , not alot of ppl are educated about it , it is a confusing illness to suffer with caus ppl often dont know how to take you , life can seem daunting , i havent heard of the diet ur on about , sorry.

Join a local support group. They can refer you to an occupational therapist in your area for the motor skill development, and also would be good sources of information on their diet results.

Lots of online support groups specifically for Aspergers, too.

Try reading the "Out of Sync Child" by Carol Stock Kranowitz about sensory problems-it's an excellent source of info. Also learn about some of the social development issues by reading books by Adam Cox.

i am so sorry people are so insensitive to this subject they have no idea what it is or what people with this syndrom have to go through. my 11 year old nephew has aspergers...he has become so much better in the last 4 years. he was so bad at one point you couldnt even touch him...now he is hard to tell from a normal 11 year old. My heart goes out to you...I really wish I knew what could help you. God bless!! good luck!

You can go to all natural immune system enhancer products.

yes i have high functioning autism which is simular to aspergers i get overwhelmed by the amount of stimuli i take in i.e .. noises, textures etc.. i dont have many fine motor skill deficits but i have 1 or 2 gross motor skill deficits. I cant rely surgesst much there arnt many therapies or services that provide for higher functioning autism spectrum disorders. And u wont get into anything like occupational therapy im trying at the moment ive been told its only for severley mentally and physically disabled people so sorry but i cant surggest much!!

I have aspergers myself. As far as motor skills, you can improve those by practicing continuously. But the reality is that we will always be klutzes.

Forget about a glutten free diet unless you have a known intolerance to glutten. Low carb diets are useful if you are overweight. However, for aspergers, the only thing most of us need to avoid is products that contain aspartame (nutrasweet, diet coke, etc). Aspartame works as a neurotoxin and must be avoided.
