How can i stop overeating?!

Question: I cant help it. I constantly eat and I cant stop once i start. I just keep feeling like i have to have more.
Please dont say anything mean- I used to have a bad eating disorder and got way too skinny- im not fat right now but if i continue i am afraid i will be. Once i started eating again it was like an addiction and i couldnt get enough. What do i do?

Have you ever gone to a counselor or had a nutritionist to talk to? It can help to know someone is keeping up with you and you have goals to and a plan. I had a nutritionist work with me once and lost 30 pounds 180 to 150 in three months. I've gone up and down since but I know what it takes now. The feeling of worry and anxiety you have right now isn't necessary. Good luck.

keep eating but do a lot of running...thats wat i do

I don't know what to tell you, I need help with that myself, i'm not fat, but I wanna be as exy as possible, but I'm a food addict

Be very aware of what a portion is, put it on a plate, eat, and then brush your teeth immediately after you finish eating to let your body know that you are done.

Are you bored? Keep your self busy...take classes, or get a second job. Chew gum. Or only keep healthy food in your house. Only grocery shop when you are full. Dont eat past 6pm. walk to keep busy. Just keep on track...we only get one life, live it healthy! good luck

maybe you should go talk to a therapist or somebody that can help you. im not trying to be mean, i think it could really help you if you have somebody thats liscened to listen to your problems, and give proffesional advice to you.

but, for the meantime, try taking a breather and think about what you're doing, try eating alot of fruits and vegstables.

Try to THINK before you eat. For example, don't mindlessly start eating while watching TV or on the computer. BEFORE you eat, think of how much you will allow yourself to eat and tell yourself even if you want more, that you CANNOT. Then when you finish your portion, you can continue thinking to yourself "I'm proud for stopping even though I FEEL like having more, I KNOW I shouldn't." If you just eat and 'hope' to the stars after the fact that next time you won't eat as much, it will be impossible to change the amount you eat, so THINK THINK THINK then follow through and good luck!!

have someone watch you eat or stop eating junk foods.

i suggest that you get a lot of healty food to eat such as a bag of carrots or some celery sticks and snack on them that way tou can fll your somach and enjoy eating at the same time. i over eat al the time but i do it with healty food so i dont gain any weight

Does it feel like your eating to fill a void? It won't work. You need to talk to someone, a professional preferred. I don't have the same affliction, but I do understand the need to eat to fill....I don't know...space? Something is wrong and you have not found found the 'what' yet, honey. I'm sorry...I wish I had the answer. I don't.....I just know that part of it is in me, too.

A couple things to ask yourself is:

Is it the week before your period? If so, your appetite may be higher and it will go back to normal once your period starts and you'll lose the pound or two you may have gained.

Is it cold where you are right now? Cold weather in the winter raises our appetites. Try and exercise more but please don't be too hard on yourself. The more you beat yourself up for it, the more you will want to overeat.

Also, if you are not getting enough sleep, it could raise your appetite. Make sure you get 8 hours, if possible.

Counseling is a good option to help with the behavior itself. I know what you are going thru - I have the same problem but have not been to counseling. Others have recommended keeping busy so you don't have time to keep eating more and more. (Being on Y/A is a good start - hahaha) Exercising will reduce your appetite, believe it or not! You just have to do it for at least 20 minutes. I've started crocheting which helps me to forget about food. Kinda granny, but it's fun to make scarves, etc.

Another option is to try and eat only healthy foods. I lost 20 lbs. on weight watchers not because I ate any less but because I ate healthy food! Like fudgesicles (no sugar added), mini bagels, hot cocoa (fat free), baked tortilla chips and salsa, veggies, yogurt, fresh fruit, etc. Make sure you have lots of good food around you so you have no choice but to eat good food.

Remember - don't be hard on yourself. You overcame what sounds like anorexia and you are trying to be healthy. Pat yourself on the back for that!

Oh yeah - and drink lots of water! It will fill you up more and, despite popular belief, reduces bloating! Drink at least 8 glasses a day! It keeps your metabolism going.

see a doctor who can help you with that.

i had an over eating problem as well , although i put it to use this time around i am traing to enter met rx worlds strongets man comp.
when i needed to stop though i would eat things that are good for you and also drink more beverages
patatos arent bad for you and they fill u up like mad ,
eat things that absorb water like starches and etc combined with drinking alot youll be stuffed and wont want more
however if you dont want to give up your favorite foods buy smaller portions like dont go for the biggest bag o chips buy a moderate size one ,
also if you spend alot of money on food spend it on other things that way you will enjoy thoose things and not have enough money to spend it on an over abundance on food
if all else fails contact a diet doctor

Exercise regularly to lose weight.
Every day, try reducing how much you eat by one plate

I agree with Tammy M answer about admitting to being a food addict. At least then you can have the chance to realize your trigger foods and do something about it.Like I know anything in the chip isle at the grocery store is a trigger food for me so I'll treat it like cocaine and avoid it at all costs; meaning not even have it as an occasional treat because I know I won't stop eating them.

You are obviously having eating disorder symptoms once again. You need to be careful. Seek professional help.

Eating disorders tend to have roots in low self esteem. You will need to address your feelings of insecurity and inadequacy.
