Describe to me an interesting character?!

Question: I'm a very shy person...but, I love to act. The only problem is, is that the actress and the shy person are two different people. I want to break out of my shell a bit more...and how I want to do this is by combining my acting with real life. I want to have a character that I can 'act out' throughout the day when I'm shopping...etc. So, can you describe a character that I can 'be?' Give their name, background, personality, hobbies etc. Also, I should say, this is just an experiment. I just want to see if this will help me open up more to people. Not people I know, but people I'm meeting for the first time. My name will stay the same, but my personality will be different. Anyone want to give me a character?

Oh, and I put this under mental health because I know there's other shy people lurking around here, and I figure they would know the perfect character for me to play!

Okay, I'm going to answer the question the way you stated it.

I myself use an alias, Calvin Gessier.

The last name is french,
the background on this character is that I have a grandfather who was french thus my less asian outlook. I grew up in the south, in new orleans but moved up to california when I was 5. I had no friends back there so I really don't remember much but I still have my mardisgras bead's hanging next to my Kiss poster. I'm a big fan of rock and roll (in real life, and in character)

When you make an interesting character, you want to make it believable (I actually look pretty white, and have been mistaken to be at least 2 times). When you set out a story you'll have to make your nationality match. From your nationality you backtrack unto where you originate from. It can end up being a vast array of places. As long as it fit's the story and isn't too strange it should be believable.

In fact, it makes it more believable when there are stranger elements to it.

Like, my character Calvin Gessier. My grandpa was french, in the later part of the colonization of Vietnam my grandpa met my grandma.

That's interesting and believable because the history books have it listed.

I think a good name for your Character could be...

Alyson, Jennifer, Astley (no relation to Rick Astley *search his music on youtube*)

That gives you a straight forward point of interest, not being related to Rick Astley but still carrying the name.

You also might want to do research on your character.

Astley - the last name originates from britain

so... your parents were british, so it makes sense that they could have moved around anywhere within the US.

I personally can hold up a southern accent (a believable one) for a few days straight (never tried longer than that).

If you can too. then try influencing your character through that but only use it if it's believable.

Like, because of the french origins our family moved down to New Orleans sometime ago. In the south I picked up the accent.

Work with the many acting talents you have. If you can do something that seems at all regional, then use it to your advantage.

It's up to you to give them a good background, personality and hobbies.

but if you follow what I gave you it shouldn't be hard to think of them.

Personality should always be parallel to yours. To be consistent and have an easier time, when you act you want to have your character have some similar attributes to you.

My favorite actor is Zach Braff (main actor in the hit TV series , Scrubs) and a lot of his personality comes out in his characters, which makes them seem down to earth and believable.

Hobbies - should be akin to the stuff that you have a knack for already, and some other stuff that you may know about but don't have to perform for people.

I use hacking as one of them. I picked it up when a friend of my father's came over and was fixing my dad's computer and I was interesting in computer applications and programming so he got me started into it. (that's a fake story)

If you know the terminology it shouldn't be hard to make it seem like you can do it. (just hope you never have to perform)

I don't think this will help. You will not make any lasting friendships or romance by being someone you're not. Sorry.
Do you have any outgoing friends? Take some cues from them when you're out together. Confidence is the key word.

Heres the thing I've learned about shyness. Noone knows you're shy unless you tell them They only see whats on the outside. Why don't you just be yourself but an outgoing version of yourself. Maybe with enough practice the shyness will go away all together.
