My brothers drug problem...?!

Question: my older brother is 20, and he recently over the past year has admitted to our family and overcome a drug addiction to oxy contin & other drugs, i'm not sure because i wasn't really informed on what happened. lately i've been noticing he was acting weird however, even though as far as we know he's been clean for many months. i know it's invasion of privacy & wrong but he left his phone home the other day and i went through his text messages. there was one message sent to him from a person i didn't know saying that he could get him methadone. i looked that up and found that it helps drug users to stop using drugs, but i'm sure it's not GOOD. he also said to his friend that he's not using needles or heroin anymore and he'll be fine, and his friend replied saying "just remember where this road leads to"...i just don't know what to do i'm really bad with confrontation. i don't know if i should tell anyone but i'm afraid if something happen it will be my fault...

Oxy is a heavy drug, heavy enough to warrent Methadone. He is doing this instead of the bad stuff. However, the problem is that your brother is getting it from a friend and not a clinic. So, he might be using it to get high.
It is not your fault if your something happens! No way... My bro died from a Herion OD and I knew he was using. I do not feel any guilt... and yes, I loved him a lot. The simple fact is that you cant help someone that does not want your help. The best thing for you to ask him if everything is okay, let him know that you are there for him if he needs you. The important thing is not to judge him for his problem.
If you do not want to confront him, than don't! But dont take this burden on yourself. Go talk to someone you trust like your Mom or Dad. If you can't talk to them because they will give you up, go talk to your guidence counsler in school. They can point you in the right direction a lot better than anyone on 'Yahoo Answers' can. Good luck!

you just need to sit down and speak to ur bro.A person at such times needs help and that can be from the family

methadone is a narcotic like heroin and morphine. it is also less addicting. usually people who use it as a street drug use it to deal with withdrawal pain. withdrawal from heroin can cause serious pain to the stomach and other parts of the body. its a perscription drug used as a strong pain killer. theres a good chance that ur brother is still going threw withdrawal from his drug abuse. if ur still worried though tell one of ur parents.

i know that you are prob. really shocked. jus talk to him an see wats really up dont jump to conclusions yet. if you find out that he is then maybe you should go to some one to help him i know i would do the same thing =)

Methadone is also sometimes prescribed for people addicted to Oxy and hydrocodone, but again, it is habit forming in itself, so he may become addicted to it. There are re-hab clinics and pain clinics that can monitor the use of methadone and help wean him off the drug. But of course, he has to admit that he has a problem and want help. I am not sure where you live, but there are often agencies in the area that will help and give you direction as to where to start. Some areas also have drug court programs that can help. If nothing else, look in the phone book for rehabs and contact them.

you are not nosy just worried. If he is taking oxy contin & other things, he has a problem. If he told your parents why are they allowing him to stay there? He needs to be in a program as he is a drug addict. You may younger but you can calmly confront him to let him know you love him and he needs help and that you don't want him to die, you also need to talk to your parents to let them know you know whats up and you want to find help for your brother. Good Luck

I speak from experience here, I've been down that road. First let me say that there is NOTHING you can say that will change what he is going to do, he's got to make those mistakes on his own. This is a PHYSICAL addiction, different from any other drug out there. You CANNOT just stop when you want to.

What you need to do is to let him know how much you love him and want him to be better. If he says "yeah, sis, I've been clean for months! You know that!" Just give him a look that says you know better.

He NEEDS to look for a METHADONE CLINIC in your area. That is the ONLY THING that has helped me get my life back together. People who haven't been addicted to opiates don't understand why this helps, but please trust me, it does. I've gone from being an A+ college student to falling to the farthest depths of drug addiction and the ONLY thing that brought me back up to where I am today (about to start my final semester in college, getting my degree in May) is the fact that a Methadone Clinic opened up in the next town. You have to find a way to research for one and let him know about it. If you want to, e-mail me with what town you're in and I will help you find one. THIS IS REALLY THE ONLY THING that will REALLY help him, trust me.
