I have no motivation and just want to sleep?!

Question: I'm 16. I hate getting up in the morning. On weekends I'll sleep until 11. At night I usually can't fall asleep until at least 12:30 even if I'm laying in bed by 10. Today its Saturday, I have homework and stuff to do like usual, but I have zero motivation. I just can't make myself care about it. I just feel like laying in bed and listening to music and doing nothing for hours. So I do that, and time just goes by, and I wake up the next day and do it all over again.. what's wrong with me?

I never feel like hanging out with people, and I just want to "relax" all the time. I never get anything done. I never want to do anything. It's gotten to the point where eating and going to the bathroom annoys me since I don't feel like getting up. And school.. it's hell. I hate school with a burning passion. Gahhh. I'm not even trudging through life.. I'm just tiptoeing above it in a cloudy state of mind.

What's wrong with me? Am I just lazy? It doesn't feel normal.

You definitely have depression. Symptoms of depression include lack of motivation, social withdrawal and feeling miserable for no apparent reason.
A human brain contains many different chemicals that all have a purpose. Mental illnesses are caused when there are too much of some chemicals or too little. It is likely that the level of a chemical called serotonin inside your brain is too low.
The reason you want to relax all the time is to escape the prison of your misery. The whole purpose of relaxing is to make yourself happy, so you wanting to do this all the time suggests that you feel miserable and you want to make the pain and suffering go away.
You have asked if you are lazy, believe me you are most definitely not. Your excessive sleeping is due to your desire to escape the misery.
If you still enjoy things in life, such as music or games or whatever, then your depression isn't too severe and is reversible.
I beg you to do something to combat the depression that you are undergoing. This could be something simple as pouring out your heart to someone close to you that you trust. If you are a guy, then I understand you finding it difficult to do this so talk to a female. Another option is to make an appointment with a doctor who will refer you to a specialist.
If you get referred to a specialist, you will either be interviewed by a person or you will have to fill in a special type of questionnaire. The information that you provide during this stage will determine what medication you will be prescribed and what dosage. If you do receive medication, do not expect it to work instantly. It will be a minimum of two weeks before it starts having any effect.
If you decide to nothing about your problem, then it will only get worse. You might start thinking about suicide or fantasising about death. If you do think about suicide, try to use failsafe countermeasures. This can be anything, a long term goal that you want to achieve in the future, or if you are religious, believe that suicide is a pathway to Hell. The purpose of these failsafe countermeasures is to stop yourself from committing suicide.
Always remember that nothing ever stays the same, everything changes. This means that your depression will disappear.
You currently find it difficult to do anything, it is quite a Catch 22 situation that seems impossible to break. Try setting yourself either daily or weekly targets. Start off small and then get bigger as you progress. You can choose to have a reward system, where you reward yourself for meeting one of your personal targets.
Remember, you are young and have the rest of your life to live. Don't let this depression stop you from living your life because who knows what will happen? You might discover something or experience immense pleasure.

sounds like depression
You should see a doctor.

Hi, I'm 17 and I know exactly what you mean. I don't really ever want to do anything, but I push myself to. I really hated school too. Now I'm home schooled and thats a lot better, but the motivation is still really low. I know that I am depressed, but I refuse to take anti-depressants. My mom is on them and they do nothing for her. I do smoke weed, everyday. I don't care what people say about weed being a depressant, its not. I was depressed way before I started smoking weed. It is my medicine, it eases the pain. Sorry I had to rant about weed, but you may be depressed.

I think you may have a mild depression brought on by the changes in your body or a situation. Teens often have a mild depression from the hormonal changes taking place.

What you can do are a few things; keep as active as you can--literally push yourself out the door daily to do some sort of exercise (walk, bike, etc.). Watch what you are eating, sugary foods and alcohol all can act as depressants. Junk food does not give energy so eat healthy, no sodas or jolt type drinks.

Do you get much sunlight where you live? If not, you may have SAD which can be taken care of by getting some sunlight daily if possible or sitting under a light box. Also, take vitamin D and calcium daily.

If all of that fails and you have really tried for a couple of weeks, then see a counselor at school for some suggestions.

u sound depressed too me . go speak to ur doctor is all i can suggest.. good luck

dude you rock if you arent depressed you just plain rock

Please talk to a counselor, or even a teacher or parents about this. It sounds like depression to me, and doesn't have to be this way for you.

Not caring about much is primo symptom of depression. So is staying in bed all day.

You sound a lot like me... so don't take any of my advice here :) I don't think it is lazy. I don't think it is choice. Something is preventing you from going further and living. Thinking about school may be preventing you from doing anything.

You need to make actual appointments.
Look for voluntary work- or something that may give you some drive.
You need to find ambitions and dreams.
Sport.
Try not to think in terms of "everything" or "nothing". When you see everything in front of you as a mountain it becomes one.

I wish one day you will come down from the clouds to earth and take one step.

yeah lazy bout says it the problem appeared to me the second i read listening to music where r your parents in this equation times like this is when i say spankings worked for me and were very motivationable when i was younger

Firstly, it could be your age. Staying in bed until 11am is not late. I hate mornings and suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder and Depression. Sometimes I cant even face the world. People may think that I am being unsociable, but I just want to lock myself away from the world.

You have taken the good step of asking for advice on here. Please speak to a doctor or family who can help. Sometimes it is just really good to talk to someone. Make yourself do it. It honestly does work.

Good luck

What are your spiritual beliefs? Do your guardians have one? Sometimes not having any background in what we believe in has a negative effect on what we do. Try something new-anything. Riding a bike, walking to the store, something physical, and see if this gets you going. You need mental stimulation, and right now nothing is stimulating your mind, and therefore, you are feeling lazy. Plus, those growth hormones are really kicking your but right now. All you want to do is sleep because you are still growing, probably more rapidly now than ever. You need physical activity. Force yourself out of the bed, and outside, and although it seems repulsing to think of outside while inside, once you are outside, you will feel the difference and your body will wake up. You deserve it.

Depression is what is wrong with you. You say you hate school. Do you think that is the cause of your lack of motivation and general miserableness? If the school situation was resolved, do you think you'd feel better? Not miraculously full of beans, but feel like participating in the world again? If so, what can you do about it? Change schools? Homeschool? Quit and go for an apprenticeship? Netschool? School through an adult learning centre? We have TAFE here in Australia, I don't know if you have something similar.
Your parents probably won't let you quit school unless you something else lined up. If you'd rather a job, find one. If you'd like to homeschool, do your research and present your case to your parents. Same with any of the other suggestions I've made. Parents don't respond well to whinging. They respond much better to "I want to" rather than "I don't want to" statements.

Not to be insulting, but if you're smoking pot, that'll make you feel like this.

sounds like depression. I feel the same way. I like to sleep because it passes the time and I'm always tired. I don't eat much anymore and I've been avoiding friends and family a lot. On Tuesday I'm going to go talk to the counsellor. Try that because it sounds like depression. A lot of teens get that so it's nbd.

Maybe you need to see a doctor...
You may have depression, or possibly a different type of illness that is dragging you down.

It's important that you are open and honest with people so you can get help.... maybe talk to a trusted adult- and see if they can help you from there...
