The thing is that your soul is a very subjective thought, to many they feel the soul is nonexistent, to others it is a seperate form from your body. Many say the soul is your mind, and conciousness is what seperates it form your physical form. In essence the soul as a concept is made up- but made up in the sense that it can be described as anything to anyone.
