Thin line between depression and happiness?!

Question: Lately, I've been feeling kind of down and sad about my life... and I usually feel that for about a day, ... then the next couple hours later, I feel sorta happy.. and kinda hopeful about life..

It's really strange. Is there a thin line between depression and happiness?

You sound like about anyone else I've met.
Moods can fluctuate due to so many internal and external variables.

Consider these, and my mood turns sour:
Having cold wet feet in soggy shoes
Hungry 3 hrs beyond your usual meal time.
In a closed car with a crying baby for 30 minutes.
Stopped by the cops, given a ticket.
Yelled at at work.
An argument with your honey.
A surge/drop in hormones
Hearing really bad news

Consider these and my mood sings in happiness:
hearing the words "we're going out to dinner tonight"
Tasting chocolate
when somebody else already did the dishes
buying a new pair of shoes
riding in a new car
smelling campfire smoke in the woods or on the beach
discovering a $20 bill in your coat pocket
tasting a warm pie a-la-mode
receiving a gift - for no special reason
watching a baby take his first steps
holding a newborn for the very first time my heart soars

I sense that for a person to have a FULL RANGE OF EMOTIONAL ability over a day or a week IS REALLY THE HEALTHIEST A PERSON CAN BE. The people who get "stuck" in either strong feeling or no feelings at all are the people who are unhealthy.

Rather than saying there is a "thin line" between depression and happiness, I believe a well balanced, healthy person stands at the center of a teeter-totter of emotion, feeling the full range of emotions shift beneath his feet.

youve probably got bipolar depression, my mate has that and he has the same thing as you. basically what he does is try and make goals and aims in life and things to look forward to, and when your feeling down; think of those.
also dont turn to drugs, trust me that NEVER helps anything.

=)

would you think it's coincidental that the line between the two is exactly the width of one big hug?
