What do I do?!

Question: I am seeing a counseler for my depression and everything is fine there, but a day or two after that, I will just fall back into my depression like i never saw her. I'm not sure what to do when this happens. Any advice?

You should be discussing this pattern with her and she can give you detailed advice.

For now, I can say what you need to do is watch your thought patterns, you are spirialing and need to be aware of that. Take your mind off of this by doing something uplifting to take your mind off of whatever is depressing you.

Also, check on these things too; your diet should be free of sugary foods, alcohol and street drugs (all can cause depression). Eat healthy, get daily exercise to boost the endorphins in your brain (the feel good chemical) and if you live in a place that gets little sunlight in the winter, you may have SAD. If you do, just take some Vitamin D and calcium and get 15 minutes of sunlight a day if possible or buy a light box.

see a psychiatrist instead of a counselor that way the psychiatrist can also write a prescription for antidepressants

exercising helps alot, i know it sounds dumb, but it really helps me when i start to slip.

I would write a journal.

Every time you feel depressed. Write a journal.

What time of the day it happens?
Did something or someone trigger those emotions?

When you see your counselor ask them if they have any suggestions how to cope with that depression.

*gut feeling they will say go for a walk or listen to music.

Do something new. Pick up a hobbie, do something to keep yourself busy and feel good about yourself. I would suggest working out, or learning yoga or pilates. if you're not into that, maybe try painting, reading, tennis, croutching, cooking, or anything like that. feel good about yourself, get all dressed up and go out, watch a movie, go shopping!!! Maybe the next time you see your counseler, tell her how you feel, she will probably have good suggestions as well. you can always email me if you need to talk.

:)

Good luck and remember have fun!!!! it's a new year, a new start!!!!

HMM Y R U DEPRESS TALK TO ME
EMAIL ME

Honestly, this was a saving grace for me....
Maybe you could keep a journal between the two of you?
You could write on the days you don't see her, that way you can feel like you are communicating with her on the days you don't see her and need her-- and you could talk to her when you see her about whatever it was you wrote to her during the week...
It's important not to lose sight of what progress you make in sessions... maybe journaling about the session and re-reading it a day or two after the session to remind yourself of how you felt better...

go see a psycologist. psychiatrists will give u pills but thats not getting to the root of your problem. a psychologist will help u you too understand why ur feeling the way u r.from experience a psychologist was the best thing i went too see.best of luck

Are you following his advice?are you really trying to change? you have to stop this cycle now. I used to feel the same way, I didn't go to a counselor or a psychiatrist though, but I did talk to wise people and friends, and felt really good for few days but then what?everything just goes back to what it used to be until I realized that this actually happens because you get used to it, in a way that it becomes your new comfort zone.

I don't know If my point was understood or not(my english sucks ^__^) but all I know is that I wish you the best of luck.
