Just started taking effexor?!

Question: I just started taking effexor xr and my doctor also prescribed me .5 xanax to take when needed and she said to use very sparingly. I always feel like i'm about to have a panic attack so therefore I feel like I should date xanax everyday. i've already tried xanax xr and it doesn't work. does anyone have any tips for herbal medicine that works. i've tried diet and nutrition but nothing makes my anxiety go away besides medicine.

You need to check and make sure any herbal remedies are compatible with Effexor...just because they are natural does not mean they can be safely used in any way. Some remedies, like St. John's wort, should not be used with antidepressants.
The dr says to take it sparingly because it can be physically and psychologically addictive (although I have taken small amounts of ativan for years and have not had any problems with it .... have not had to raise the dose and do not have a problem when I do not take it). There is an anti-anxiety medication called BuSpar that is a different class of meds, does not have the addictive qualities of the benzodiazapines (xanax, valium, ativan, klonopin, etc)...that is another option.
There is a homeopathic mix called Rescue Remedy that a lot of people find helpful...but again, you should check to see if it is compatible with your prescription meds. Honestly, I do not think homeopathic remedies alone are powerful enough to combat severe anxiety (depression, etc). I have bipolar II and they definitely - unfortunately -are not enough to control that.

You may need a stronger medication for your anxiety. One of the best herbs to use is Valerian Root which comes in capsules or tea. You can also use Passionflower, SkullCap and some of the relaxing tea that is on the market now. Try the Valerian first and see if that doesn't help. I have taken xanax and have found it not to cause any side effects.

5htp (hydroxytryptophan) is very good for depression and anxiety.

I take propranolol (a beta blocker) for my anxiety attacks. It has no side effects in low dosage and you can take it long term. It's not addictive either - the xanax is!

Hi--Klonopin is good to take every day. It is not one of those meds "as needed". It is similair to xanax I believe, because they come in 1mg tabelts, but if you are often anxious, I would try that. take care & good luck! ; )

Psychiatrists openly admitting at the 2006 APA convention that they have no scientific tests to prove mental illness and have no cures for these unproven mental illnesses.
1. Adequate B6 for dream recall (NTE 2gms qd)

2. Zinc (as gluconate) 30mg am &pm

3. Manganese (as gluconate) 10mg am &pm

4. if B6 produces numbness in extremities. Shift to pyridoxal phosphate at 1/10th dose of normal B6

I think we lose a lot of great minds and creations when we do. Just think of all the historical geniuses who would fit the bipolar mold, and if they were living today, they would be medicated out of creating.
