I don't feel really confident in my plans , Can I go through with this?!

Question: I want to find a regular "Customer Service Job" before I land a job related to my career.

The reason I want to make some extra money is because I want to pay for the expenses and it will cost me to go to out-of-state interviews. I got a degree in electrical and computer engineering . So currently I am just looking for a job titled
"Entry Level Electrical Engineer" . But unfortunately , in NY ( since it's better to say which state i'm from ) , there are no jobs . Very Rare to None .

Currently I have a Part time job at this ware house packing and sending out packages . It's barely helping me pay my car and insurance bills . Job is from 5.30 - 7.30 ( $15/hour ) . It's not good ( not enough )

I wanna get another full time job Probably in Customer Service ASAP . I want to save up some money , How much do you think I should save up before going for these out - of - state job interviews. Plus I'm only planning to work at this whichever customer service place for a month at maximum .

If you want to maximize your options, go to Career Builder.com, YahooJobs.com, and yes, I found temp agencies to be very helpful. It took me 2-3 months to find a job, and the temp agency 1 day! Try and see what you can find on the internet. Resource through companies you may be interested in. I can tell you in Dallas, TX, a lot of companies could use someone in your field. As for the customer service gig, have you ever worked in customer service? It sucks! I know $15 an hour in New York probably isn't a lot, so you'd probably feel like Texas didn't offer a lot. But you have to remember the cost of living is a lot cheaper here and really, everywhere else.

yes you should go thruogh with it you have to do what ever you can to make money i s very pressush you got to do what you got a do!

I would try to get the Customer service job to help save money and to gain experience in dealing with people. I would try to get a job without a temp since they are getting a big chunk of your money, but then you are only wanting to be at the job a month and it would look better on resume if you were at a temp service and decided to find full time work with their company while you are out applying.

As far as the amount of money you need to save up, well you have to calculate how much your bills are, how much moving will cost, and money to live on. Even if the company does pay for you to relocate (which not all do) you still have deposits for phone, electric, switching insurance, and food. I live in GA so I am not sure how much things cost in NY but I would try to save enough to cover your needs for at least a month or so. Plus you have to think that some job hold a week or pay every two weeks and hold your first check so it may be an additional month before you have income coming in.

I graduated with an Engineering degree in manufacturing and most of the companies that I interviewed with payed for plane tickets, car rental, and hotel cost. I usually had to pay for my own meals. How soon should you start saving, in my opinion you can not start saving soon enough. How much will you need, will depend on how many interviews you go on and if you will be driving or flying. The interviews that I drove to did not pay for anything. I wish you luck!
