How can i get people to join my support group?!

whats up, ( Warning this will be along explanation with lots of reading and you may need a little one on one to better explain it's full effect.)
This is a growing problem that people all over the net suffer with active forums? However, all the ways possible there is only one way that I have found can completely give them a boot, but it does has one down fall.
Here is the best way out there I have found and it will elimnate 2 out of 5 completely.
If you are using a blogg or a type of site that comes free like with (yahoo or MSN) Theses sites don't give the control or security you seem to be looking for. However, the way I am talking does cost a few dollars and is the best way to controll these issues...You can purchase a web site and domain name fro http://www.godaddy.com and http://ravenwebhosting.com/
At Go dady a site is $45.00 per year. Make sure that you have atleast 2 MySequel accounts which should be free with the site.
1. Is to run PHP (PHP is a alternet web language other than html and xml.) I do run both computer languages. It isn't real hard. When you log in as Administrator you get a GUI ( GUI stands for Graphic User Interface) It's just like the desk top on your pc with icons on you desk top that you just click and control the differant areas of your site. (very easy)
2. When you people add offinsive content you can delete there account and with sentinal you can record there IP address and they can't log in no more with there ip. Unfortunatly if they have dail up there ip is renewed every time the log into the net so some can get by this way so to help control them. Is to give your best members you can trust limited control just in the forums not to the site and they can help you remove the post but not change your settings.
3. Here is the other option that works well with it? You can charge a $1.00 member fee this helps pay for the web site.
4 As I said with php you also get sentinal, sentinal gives ypu the option to add there ip address to it and they can no long even see the site so they can't post.
5. This can be along dicussion but it does help at a average of 75%. It's not totally perfect, but it lets them know you are not messing around with them and they will come to know it's not worth the effort and wil leave your site alone.
6. You will need to asssign forum Admins to help you keep control of this and it will work fast. However please understand that the ones that are doing these things have problems just like us and they think it's fun and helps occupine there time too.

With sentinel all you have to do is add the ip address and they can't visit the site no more?

Place free ads in local newspapers and post ads on public bulletin boards, and then screen all potential members over the phone before you allow them to join your support group to see if they are suitable.
Post rules and delete anyone who wont follow them, you have to be tough for the sake of the other members, you will get nasty people, but keep an eye on it and dont be afraid to act, you cant please all the people all the time, and buttholes dont deserve a place in your group!

I think you should first concentrate on getting people to join you first rather than worry about the wrong people joining, you can always exclude these people later when they show you they are not working by the membership rules.
Try to find out where your target audiences are, and contact them. You may find in this particular case the group might be more the caring staff rather than patients who join as you are on-line.

Great idea to have a support group. I go to an actual group in my local town. We support all kinds of emotional, psychological, psychiatric and other problems.
On a web site you need to state clearly that you as the administrator have the right to veto any member. Also check all the mail if you can to filter out unwanted mails. People with mental health issues already have a hard enough life without idiots adding to their woes. Good luck.
