Has anyone tried primal screaming?!

Question: I did order a book off Amazon ages ago but it never turned up, it's something I have wanted to try for ages but have never really taken it any further.
I used to suffer from terrible depression and even now I still get very down and want to let rip and scream and shout. Thing is, daft as it sounds I feel silly and I physically cannot scream.
Has anyone ever tried it, how did you get on and did it work?
Many thanks

Yep I've done it. And boy was it good. I took myself off to the middle of no where, and let rip. I ended up with a bad headache, hoarse, and washed out, but it was well worth it, the headache went and so did a lot of my pent up feelings.......

So don't feel silly go out and do it girl, you'll feel tons better, I did. And do you know what, I'll go do it again if and when needed.

I cant say I have ever heard of primal screaming as a therapy, but I do tend to have a good scream at the top of my lungs if something is really getting on my ****. I've always found it a great release of anger!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!

There, I feel so much better.

Yes I've tried it several times but out in the deep woods were no one could hear me. It has a strange way of releasing pent up aggressions. Sometimes it takes several lengthy bellowing screams that come from deep within your diaphragm to achieve results. It's almost as if you know that your scream was heard somewhere far out in the cosmos. Screaming is something we very rarely get to do in this politically correct society which in fact is getting more inhibiting than ever. We can hardly even talk anymore let alone screaming. Try it one day, you may find it works for you.

When I was depressed, I was unable to scream, or to even talk in a voice that was not almost a whisper. I worked very hard on this. First, I started trying to sing in my car, when I was alone. I couldn't just DO it, automatically. I had to push myself a LOT. Finally, I could whisper-sing a long with the radio. Then, I was able to sing alone, quietly. Later, I began to sing louder and louder, until it was a normal volume. After a very long time, I could sing louder. Then, I began to make a really hard attempt at speaking louder (that is the normal volume I was shooting for). I had always thought I was speaking at the normal volume, and that other people were wrong when they said that I whispered. I didn't believe them! After years of working on this volume thing, I am still a soft spoken person, but people CAN hear me, now. In the car, all alone, it is easier to practice that scream you are talking about. Don't expect it to come the first try. Do keep trying, though!

No, but I've heard that it is very therapeutic.

singing to all hard rocking metal is cathartic in such a manner

I first read about this technique in "Visual Magick" by Jan Fries (published in England) and found it quite interesting, though I really haven't tried it yet.
