I need to relax, I'm so worried!?!

Question: I applied for a job in November 07, in December I was offered the chance to do an online test as part of the screening process. Someone else who applied for the same job and did the online test notified me today that they had been contacted by email and informed they had failed the test. I have heard nothing so I don't know if my rejection email is on it's or way or what.

I need to learn how to relax, I am getting so anxious about this job thing because the opportunities are rare and competition fierce. It is consuming my mind in an unhealthy way

I do not know what your precise circumstances are and what your position in the jobs market is. In general the jobs market in London is pretty healthy and so you should be able to apply for a series of jobs. The vast majority of jobs are advertised on the Internet these days - have you mastered all the sources of jobs?

There is plenty of advice on the Internet and in books about job search and interview skills. The test you took was probably a psychometric test and you can practice these online. Have you had your CV checked - again a good CV will maximise you chances of getting an interview. Based on your CV you should develope a story you can tell about what you have done - try & describe how you took the inititive and helped your previous employer.

The best advice I can give is that you develope and improve your job search skills to the maximum and then just keep applying for jobs. Do not get too wound up by any one job because that will make you nervous and the biggest thing you need in an interview is confidence - just tell yourself there will be other opportunities if this one does not work out.

Try the bach remedies, look on their website to work out what you need.

just be positive and things will be great don't worry and assume that you failed because you may have got really high marks i'm sure you've done well! just stop worrying and give yourself time for fun and relaxation..you've worked hard and you dserve to be happy

no news is good news right?

It's easy to say try not to think about it but that's what you should try to do! If you have any hobbies you enjoy try doing those, go for a walk or have a long soak. Remain calm and focus on the little things you have in life like family and friends- hopefully they will bring things into perspective.

All the best

I've never heard of an online screening test, how odd!

Do you have contact details for the people who the job is with? There's absolutely no harm in emailing them or phoning them just to check what the position is with the job. They won't think you're being pushy, if anything it will seem like you are eager and enthusiastic.

Put your mind at rest and get in touch first thing tomorrow.

have a couple of glasses of wine

find a good gella and youll get over it

Drink some tea and watch a DVD. That way you will be relaxed and distracted. Make sure it is a DVD that holds your full attention such as Doctor Who.
