How do I help a friend stop cutting herself?!
Question: Now, I have a really good friend who I've known for such a long time, and she cuts herself when she is overly emotional about something. We tried to get help for her but she wont stop.
Plz don't call her emo, she really isnt =]
But lately, she's also just been cutting at night randomly. Idk why. And I wanna stop her. How do I do it?

okay this may sound cheesy but ask her to start a H.A.L.T
(happy, angry, lonely, tired) notebook.
every time she wants to cut she writes in it even if she just writes one word its progress.
She'll eventually understand her feelings and respect them.

She needs to talk to a counsleor ASAP.... I had a family member in this situation and it doesn' t stop until the person gets help.
tell on her. she'll be mad at first but in the long run you'll be saving her life. tell the school nurse. your parents. there are ppl out there that can help her. i'm sure she doesn't like doing this and is really hurting. if you love her you will do what is best for her.
talk to a chounselor.would b the obvious thing i guess
Get her a shrink, and steal everything sharp in her house.
ps. thats pretty much what an emo does, so you can't expect us not to call her emo.

I have no clue what emo means....
My son does this. This is a mental problem and will drive us nuts to try and figure out mental health problems.
If she is over 18 you can try and get her committed by calling a mental health clinic?
This child of mine is in a controlled environment who is keeping a close eye on my child. What else can we do? This is a mental condition.
If this is a child, tell the parents. Heck I had no clue my son was doing this for the longest time!! I mean I am a mom I do not see my kids naked!

People with mental health problems do not want them (that truly have them). She is afraid of the counselors, very common!!
I know this is hard but if she doesn't want the help nothing you could do will change her mind. I know you want to fix the problem but all you can do is be there for her when she is ready for help. You could get her the best counseling in the world but if she doesn't want to change it won't mean anything.

i've always prefered jabbing myself with a pin or needle, it doesn't scar like cutting yourself does.
-pain reminds us that we are still alive. i often say that nothing takes away the pain like more pain, physical pain is easier to deal with than emotional pain.
