Your sister isn't "addicted" to it just because she's been using it. GHB is short for gamma-hydroxybutyrate. It's very similar to a natural brain chemical, which means it provides a lot of different effects to people who use it. Without more information, I can't tell you why your sister would be using it, but if she suffers from insomnia, it's a good bet she uses it to get to sleep. It has some similarities to alcohol.
I suggest you spend some time at www.erowid.com and learn more about drugs and drug use in general from a less biased perspective. (No offense meant, but the common view of drugs is not just biased, it's totally irrational and divorced from reality.)

the person who takes it (usually they dont know theyve been given it ) usually passes out and doesn't remember anything that happened the night before..

I heard years ago that it was some type of jet fuel. Whether that is true or not I don't know. I have seen people take it, in a bottle cap, just that much, and pass out and be incoherent. I had a g/f that someone put some in her drink at a bar and she woke up the next morning naked in a house where she didn't know anyone and she had vomited all over the bed while she was passed out. It is a very dangerous drug that can kill you and cause brain damage. She needs to get into rehab to treat her addiction asap
In australia on the news and such, they usually call this drug Grevious Bodiliy Harm because of the effects it has on the body. The scientific names for this drug are :Gamma hydroxy butyrate or Gamma hydroxybutyric acid, Sodium Oxybate.
Its a good thing that you've interviened on your sisters drug use and you really need to make sure that she stays off this stuff because its just down right crap!. GHB has some chemicals in it such as floor stripper and drain cleaner! It comes in mainly two forms, liquid or powder. The liquid is clear and looks like water. People who sell this drug usually keep it in water bottles because it looks like it is water. The amount of GHB that is usually used is about 1-2 ml, this is because if you take anymore, you can overdose! Its that easy apparently...how horrible.

In Australia a few years ago a young lady overdosed on GHB after being out all night. She had taken ectasy earlier in the evening and in the morning when she went to go home, she was laying in a friends car. He had a water bottle on the floor which looked like it had water in it and because ectasy makes you really thirsty she decided to drink it. She skulled it and overdosed.
Therefore thankgod you have interviened and i hope this information helps. Make sure your sister doesnt take it again, its far too dangerous!
