I am scared for my mother?!

Question: Today my Dad came to me saying just how bad of condition that my Mother is in. He told me that she has a severe case of paranoia to the point of where has become Schizophrenic. I am really scared of the state that she is in right now. She has been telling me stories which are completely not true. I tried to accept what has happened to her but I am really struggling right now. I am not a sensitive person at all but I cried for the first time in as long as I can remember. What can I do right now? I have researched the issue as much as I can and have noticed that I have several less severe symptoms of paranoia... I go back to college next week(though it is fairly close to home). What can I do to help her and before I go back and even after that. Thank you.

Your mom needs medication - some can work well for her - when she is outside of reality and when her fears are out of control.
Your mom needs therapy. - and that will be a long process for her.
Your mom needs to be assured that "she is loved" and "that you care about her- the person inside of a body that is doing this to her" (if she were an amputee, or a burn victim, you would assure her and strengthen her in this way too.)
And let your mom know "you are praying for her"
Put these things in writing - in a card she can carry with her or take to the hospital. It will give her strength she needs so badly.
Call her at least weekly, regardless of the words she speaks.
Give her hugs often - it speaks as loudly as words.

Im very very very sorry that you have to deal with this. God Bless you!!!!!! What you can do to help her is give her a big hug and tell her you are there for her whenever she needs you. And that you love her as much as any good son would love a mother no matter what she is dealing with. As for how you can help yourself is realize that because your mom has this disorder it does not transfer on to you. Throw yourself into college and pray pray pray everyday for your mother!!

God, I feel for you and your family! My brother has this too and he takes Holadol and this helps him greatly, and he is doing fine now. But when he first was diagnosed it was not a happy time! He was convinced he was Christ, and he was really out of it, big time! But again, they have medication that really treats this illness great once they get the proper dosage right. My prayer's are with you and your mother :)

Have dad get her to a doctor, these are conditions that can be treated successfully with medication and counseling. God bless you, I can only imagine how hard this must be for you. At this point all you can really do is let her know you love her and keep in touch via the phone while you are back at school. I am a hairstylist and have two clients who are paranoid/schizophrenic, both do very well as long as they stay on their meds. One has told me in the past she would go off of them because she felt so normal that she didn't think she needed them, and then it would reoccur. She says she has no problems as long as she takes her medication.

i feel for you so much, i cannot say much, but you will be in my prayers, i pray your mum gets the help to

i agree with the other that their is medication that can help her. make sure she sees a specialist. give her your love and support and pray. she will be in my prayers also.
