Depression medication question?!

Question: ive tried zoloft in the past and im fairly certain its a placebo. about 3 months ago my dr started me on Effexor 150 mg (and trazadone to help me sleep), only the last few wks ive started randomly crying again and feeling worse like im not on anything anymore. i kinda feel like you do right before you get sick or a cold, lethargic and run down and generally crappy, i thought at first it was a cold but after a couple wks i stil feel the same with no cold. i also might be bipolar, my father was violently psychotic but i dunno what was wrong with him. and yes i am gunna see my dr again but i thought i would ask for suggestions/ideas before i see him first.

I have suffered from severe clinical dep. for about 10 yrs. I have been on at least 10 different anti-dep meds. Effexor did not seem to help me but neither have the others. However, I am not giving up trying to find what works and neither should you! It can take several trys to find the right meds and sometimes it can be kind of hit-or-miss for even the best docs. I have also had crappy docs before and you can request a transfer to another doc - sometimes you need to request in writing. It sounds like the Trazodone (which I have also taken) is making you feel worse or possibly counteracting the Effexor. Definetely tell your doc what's going on and DO NOT take "no" for an answer when it comes to your own health. You have to be your own best advocate! Hang in there - I'm also trying to find the right meds so just know you are not alone!

The primary problem is that medication is only a patch...it does not address the real problems behind your depression. Your body can adjust to psychotropic medication just like most other medications requiring stronger doses, etc...until they are ineffective. While there could be some genetic loading that contribute to your issues, chances are that if you properly address them you may not need medication anymore, or perhaps you may need far less than you are currently prescribed. IPT and CBT therapies, along with medication, are very effective in treating depression and IPT has shown lower rates of relapse. So you might want to consider it instead of constantly trying to find pills to deal with it.

Hi--That is a good thing that you are going to see your doctor again. I think you are going to need a different medication.....

What do you mean that you think Zoloft is a Placebo.
What is a placebo.
