Do I lose sleep when I dream?!

Question: I remember my dreams everyday when i wake up. Sometimes it will take someone to say or do something and i suddenly remember it. I will sleep for 8 hours and still feel tired and groggy. My mom seems to think that it's because i dream too much and my mind never shuts down and therefore doesn't get the rest it needs. What do you guys think?

Contrary to popular opinion, "8 hours" of sleep may not be ideal for everyone. Many adolescents and young adults actually need more sleep. Others may need less. It is also important to maintain proper sleep hygiene - you should go to bed and wake up around the same time every night, even on the weekends. Changing bedtimes/waketimes actually promotes worse sleep, as your body's normal circadian cycles become upset.

Dreams occur during rapid-eye-movement (REM) sleep. REM sleep is critical for proper sleep. Without enough REM sleep, people may wake up tired, fatigued, and be excessively sleepy during the day. In fact, people with sleep disorders (such as obstructive sleep apnea) suffer from lack of REM sleep, and are chronically tired.

I don't know, but sometimes when I have intense dreams, it feels like I haven't slept at all.

Actually dreaming means you are getting a better night sleep.

Dreaming is better when you sleep. You are normally in a deep state of sleep known as R.E.M which stands for Rapid eye movement(not to be confuesed with the band).

Dreaming is the brains way to format its hard drive.
I don't like it when I work in my dreams.
All this work for nothing, and at first after waking I feel exhausted.
Then I am happy it was just a dream,
and realize realty is much better.
When you dream too much nonsense, and you realize this, just get out of bed, its time to do something constructive.

I believe that dreams only occur in the REM stage of sleep, this is the deepest of sleep and is usually the most relaxing. Maybe you need more than 8 hours of sleep a night...everyone is different, some people do fine on 5 or 6 hours, other people can need up to 9 or 10.
