I understand from friends that it is very helpful but I suppose you have to work at it to get the best results. Lets face it, it must be worth a try if you need a bit of help. Anything that helps get rid of negative behaviour/thoughts can only be good, especially if it has been recommended to you by a professional. We all use it through life anyway by avoiding things that we relate to a bad experience or looking forward to things that we associate with enjoyment. For example I guess that's why most people look forward to Christmas. It's just using the same sort of thing to encourage positive thoughts.

Good luck.

yes iv had it and yes it works and helps challenge negative thoughts and behaviour. i had it for ocd. x

I have - 2 different courses for 2 different reasons. I found it helped more the second time, I think cos I was older and more ready to accept everything and how to deal with it. It's good to have someone who doesn't just listen to you (like a counsellor) but actually offers ways and steps to try and solve whatever the issue is. Feel free to pm me if you want more details.

yeah I was given all these sheets and told to keep a diary of when I felt anxious so that my daily life was recorded an dcould be analysed I thought it was a loada c**p but suppose if you need help with something bad enough then you will try anything

The DBT that I had was very helpful.
At the time I got very stressed about the homework.
After I finished with the group that I attended, I had tools I could use to help myself in different situations. You can learn distress tolerance, how to live in the moment, and how to distract yourself when you are not feeling so good. The techniques are helpful. You will find certain ones that really work for you. Good Luck

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an empirically supported treatment that focuses on patterns of thinking that are maladaptive and the beliefs that underlie such thinking. For example, a person who is depressed may have the belief, "I'm worthless," and a person with a phobia may have the belief, "I am in danger." While the person in distress likely holds such beliefs with great conviction, with a therapist's help, the individual is encouraged to view such beliefs as hypotheses rather than facts and to test out such beliefs by running experiments.Good luck Angle x

I have had some CBT yes and I have to say that I didn't find it all that helpful. The thing is though that therapy is a very individual thing. People respond to different types, also having the right therapist makes a difference. I never felt all that comfortable with mine, which may have been why I didn't benefit all that much from it. Good luck with it if you do pursue this course of treatment. Statisitcally it has some very posotive results.

Yes, I had it to combat my automatic negative responses that were taking over my life - and it worked really well. I would recommend it to anyone.

Good Luck x
