FIRSTLY i would like to say do not be ashamed!!!!!and i really mean that....depression is affecting so amy ppl that i cant even give you numbers but it is one of the most widley spread mental illnesses around.
Ok you have been on medication for awhile now..but honestly what else have you done???Medication can help the chemical imbalance in our brains but some times we need more than that.At times we ourselves can be our own very worst enenmie(pls excuse my spelling).Medication can help with the imbalance in our brains but it can not help with how we think!!!!!To get the best results from medication we need to get other help such as therapy--and no i am not going to lie to you and say its easy because to work on our thinking and our pasts and working out what we can change and what we can not change is hard-----but well worth the effort!!!!
Medication for some is not the only answer and it seems that you have found that medication alone for you is not working i suggest seeking therapy for you personally, where you can chat about things that are on your mind, or stopping you from moving forward..or you can say if this is true that you dont know what is stopping you from moving forward(there could be other factor that you dont see that a professional may be able to if you are honest as hard as that might be or if you dont know then say so)
Perhaps a review on the medication that you are on might be a good idea as well..seems like its not doing what it is supposed to be doing...you need to be completely honest with your Doctor to get the best help----honestly i know as i have been there professionals can only help with as much information that you give them!!!
I wish you luck and you may if youwould like to contact me via nickname and disscuss this futher or more in depth!!!

The reason your depression is still there and active is because medication is only a temporary patch to help you deal with the real issues that are at the root of your depression more effectively. It is very rare that depression is a TRUE chemical imbalance that can ONLY be resolved with medication. In these cases, there is usually no reason why they are depressed and then when they take the pills their depression vanishes without a trace. Since this is not the case with you, then more is going on and all the pills on the planet won't fix it. You need to either find a way to work with the problem yourself or get help to guide you out of the despair you are in (eg: a psychoogist, psychiatrist, therapist, couselor, guru, whatever).

Sounds like you need to try a different anti depressant. If one isnt working then there is another one that will. It can take a long time to find whats right and what works for you. Its tough and it sucks but you have to keep trying!

Ahmad,

First of all you are doing the RIGHT thing by seeking information. This is the KEY to overcome depression. In order to cure depression you must understand that depression is a result of your problems which were not tackled or dealt properly.Try to find the roots and thoughts which distrub you.

Working out and socialising is the best way to overcome it. Believe me I have been there and I have adviced many ppl the same. It works every single time.

It's hard to get out of depression...but you can do it...people can help guide you but it's really only you who can get yourself out.

Good luck

Like most people have already stated, medication alone will not rid of it. And whilst it is true that getting out and about will make you feel better, that is better said than done as it is the depression in it's self that holds us back from being social butterflies.

My advice to you is to make a list of all the things in life that annoy you, or you want to change. Then start to systematically draw up action plans of how you may be able to tackle the issue, if it's out of your hands then put it to one side, then slowly start tackling them. You will notice that as you fix the first one you will soon start to feel a little more empowered in your life. It's a long road and you have to learn to take it in real small steps. Get someone to help you out if you can. I also found that meditating has helped me heaps with learning to focus and when i was able to focus better i was able to feel less despair.

I know that they say that depression is a chemical imbalance, which it is, but my theory is that the imbalance is caused by us feeling powerless. You gotta get control of your life.

Good luck!!!!
