How to stop worrying about...?!

Question: This might sound stupid however I get really scared of horror films and I saw "I am Legend". I didn't realise that the film was a horror when my friends asked me and now I keep worrying and obsessing that there is some sort mutant self "through a gene" that can come out. Even though I believe that this is untrue, I just keep on WORRYING about it. I just can't get my mind off of it and stop being scared and get to sleep.

Writing this really helps and my mum says when your scared you have to be reassured.

Your mom is right. It sounds like you are obsessing about this and spending WAY too much time thinking about it.

Think of it this way... if you were watching TV and the channel disturbed you, you'd change the channel. Your mind is the same way. If you have a disturbing thought or worry, simply "change the channel" in your mind and replace it with something--anything--else. So if you start to worry about Mutant genes, just say to yourself, "No, i"m not going to think about that," and think instead about what you're going to do this weekend, where you want to spend your vacation, someone you have a crush on, etc. Keep doing this and eventually you'll stop worrying.

You can also just try and laugh it off. I mean, read your question again and say, "wow, that is really dumb." Laughing it off as silly will also help you.

good luck.

learn to relax

You can relax. No mutant inside of you is liable to get out. Its not how things work. Horror movies make money which is why they are popular with film studios. Just enjoy the movie and quit worrying.

teddy bears always help me! they are cute, cuddly and never judge you. i talk to mine if i get scared or worried.

when you think about it, try to keep yourself busy like things you like to do

That was scary too but watch a lot of NEW comedies and think of them and try to get your friends not say crap like that.

Then write in a journal about your feelings about it and then after a year look back at it and see if your still scared

Everybody is scared of something. When i was younger i saw Stephen kings I.T, I was obsessed that it was gonna come up through the drain pipes so i would only go to the toilet if someone was stood outside the bathroom door....its silly now when i look back at it lol

I am legend is now a horror film. It a story of the population being wiped out by illness. It focuses on a sole survivor. Its just a story dont worry about it. Hopefully nothing like that would really happen.

It's a thing you go through everyday. Freudian psychology states there's two parts of your personality. The Id is the part that wants to satisfy wild desires. The superego is the one that wants to follow all the rules. The third part is the ego, which tries to balance the two, because following either side makes one unhappy.

Don't really worry about it. It's just a part of life and everyone faces it.

There is no reason to worry about something, unless you have a legitimate reason to do so.
In the film "I am Legend" the cause of the virus was a supposed cure to cancer. As of this time I don't believe anyone has even come close to anything like this.
that is not to say that they couldn't.
As I said though, don't worry unless you have reason to.

You sound like me :P You have really bad anxiety. Just try telling yourself what's going through your mind is not true. Try getting your mind off it by doing something that doesn't cause anxiety. Something you enjoy, or love doing. :) You should also try listening to music when trying to fall asleep, or read a book to get your mind on that subject before falling asleep... that way you wont stay up and think about the man hiding in your closet.

Now the only thing you need to remember about most horror is that it is wrtten to scare you and only to scare you. watch a happy movie,One of your favs youll get over it.Just remember its pretend.

Don't be scared. The Lord is watching over you.

ok, if u have a crush or a bf/gf think about her, keep your mind busy think of a super hard math problem to do in your head. think of a song that you dont know al the lyrics to and try and figure them out write what you think they are down find the real ones and see if u r right. plus, if no one has put a gene into your dna then you are not a mutant, by the way they are not mutant they where orignally supposed to b vampires. but they turend out to be more of zombies. anyway just keep your mind busy play music when you go to bed, quietly keep a small nightlight till you get over this minor fear. it WILL pass. or just find somthing elese to obsess over. like a math test or a girl/ boy u want to aks out. or you could watch all my little pony for 5hrs straight or barbie movies. lol

Relax, I grew up watching that stuff. Still do. I have some of the weirdest dreams that they would make good movies, but I never write them down.

I am sorry to inform you that the mutant genes seen in "I am Legend" are real. That was a documentary from the future sent back in time. What you can look forward to is there will be lots of pristine cars, like the Mustang at the start of the documentary, to drive... if you survive.

If you are going to build a lab in your basement then build it like a freaking bank safe... make it so you can survive weeks (or months preferably) if need be.

I recommend watching the Dawn of the Dead remake (2004 version)... It will give you lots of pointers on what not to do.

Well, avoid Horror films. You can always ask first about the type of the film before you see the movie. You may shift on love and comedy movies.
On your "worries", the way I understand it, your Mom has already reassured you and you should seek her advice often. The best adviser to me is GOD. If you are a Christian, you can read the Bible, the word of God, and the most read Book at present. There are plenty of reassurance in this Book and will surely help you to stop "WORRYING". I also don't want Horror movies. I wish we are near each other so that I may help give additional reassurance. K

It might help if you watched the movie again with someone you respect and talk about the movie. Talk about the special effects. the plot, the characters, there's lots of fantasy in horror films and usually a lot of plot holes and poor acting. If you watch it again it won't be as scary because you know what's going to happened and taking a critical look at it will help you realize that it is just a movie and real life isn't like that. . If you still have some trouble try looking at the reviews for it online, rottentomatoes.com has both good and bad reviews, the bad will probably be more helpful for you. While you're at it read about it on imdb and learn about the actors and look up other things that they've been in. Try it. It should take the scariness out.
