I have depression. What's a good anti -depressant that works?!

Question: But won't make me fat, or put on weight. I've tried Exafesor (is that how you spell it?) but they made me very agitated and nauseous, so i went off them.
Any other suggestions. Plus i'm a single Mum with a 2 year old so i can't be wacked out.

Ps, i've seen my doctor and she wants to put me on Zoloft. Has anyone on here taken Zoloft and if so what did you think of it, did it help you?

The cure is worse than the disease. Don't get hooked on that crap- you'll be on it for life. Handing over endless paycheques to big pharma. I've been on 6 different ones. ALL had unbearable side effects.

Seriously, talk to somebody. Counselling helps a lot. Try omega 3 fish oils- research them on the internet. Eat healthy, exercise, do yoga....talk to a shrink.

ps- Zoloft-----more like Zombieloft. I couldn't cry on Zoloft. Not one tear. I was talking to my shrink about being raped and had not one emotion when usually I would be having a panic attack and hyperventilating. How is this a good thing???? You need to process in order to heal.

Try lexapro. This has helped me a lot in the past. Good luck!

well my sister takes zoloft
i think it helps her...alot

For minor depression go the natural route. I love Sam E and St John's worth. No side effects except feeling wonderful.

I've been on Zoloft for 5 months and they do wonders. All they do is make you sleep and become relaxed. My suggestion is to take them at night; so you can sleep better or take them in the morning if you want to sleep during the day; either way is fine, but I take them at night around 8:00 p.m., 8:30 p.m., 8:40 p.m. or 9:00 p.m.

Zoloft is very good. Also try to get counselling to try and solve the underlying reasons behind yr depression.

i can tell you from my personal experience. i put on weight from prozac,so if you worried about weight this is probally a good one to stay away from.

I guess, you have to trust your doctor, she knows you and she knows which medicine is the best... better talk to her before you take a decission.

Greetings and thenk you for asking!!!

zoloft is the most clinically proven.
but all antidepressants sometimes may increase suicide for some reason in teens

Antidepressants are dangerous. It's a shame America looks to "happy pills" to solve all their problems. Zoloft is an anti-depressant that has has been linked to suicidal behavior in some users. So why are we now in the 90's being told that increased serotonin is good for us? Is it because it is good for the pocketbooks of the manufacturers? One manufacturer is running full page newspaper and magazine ads and half hour TV infomercials to bring in over $7 million daily.

I have a two year old, also, so I totally get that.

Effexor made me angry, too.
Lexapro didn't really help much.
Zoloft was all right.
My favorite has been Elavil, but has sedative effects, so you have to take it at night.

Seroquel is another good one; in high doses, it's used to treat schizophrenia, but in low ones, it's similar to Elavil.

I took Zoloft for 3 years. It really helped me. I lived life as if nothing was wrong, with no side effects. I took it until i was able to deal with my panic/anxiety disorder on my own. It is very tough. Although i did not have depression, Zoloft works for that as well. Sharon Osbourne took it and praised it on her talk show (when she had one). Just be sure to only take it for as long as you need. You do not need to depend on medication for the rest of your life. Only until you can deal with your problems on your own.

Good luck.

i've known a few people who took zoloft. a lot of them had uncomfortable side effects. i've taken paxil and wellbutrin. they work well for me alone or together. my husband takes prozac. it works for him but i think he needs to raise his dosage. the point here is that everyone is different. even the best psychiatrist won't automatically know the right medication and may have to some trial and error before finding the right med for you. so go to the best doctor you can find and work with them. good luck.

The only thing I can come up with ain't got to do with drugs... I just got out, take long walks, or drive to other places, inspire myself with the landscapes... sometimes all we need is to remember what makes us happy and do it...

good luck!

there is no good anti D.your individual, what works for one may be bad for other.
its trial and error you need to try the Zoloft and evaluate your situation.
I had a bad year and had citalopram it worked for me however i was not buzzing up and down, sceaming im happy Lol.

also remember that a anti d. takes 4-6 weeks for you to actually feel any effects from the drug.
also wonder why you need to be on this, as its last resorts Hun
