How am I study in the living room with my family?!

Question: I am a freshman who is currently attending City College. I live with my family. Our apartment has two master bedrooms and one living room that combine with kitchen. My problem is I cannot study in my living room because my sister listens to the radio without using headset. My mom cook in the kitchen. I am distracted by sound, noise and smell. I cannot focus on my study. One more problem is I am hardly focus on my study because I have too much unnecessary distractions. I think I better go to my bedroom and study.
My question is how do you improve your study skills in your college years? I want to improve my grades. Thanks.

Definitely get away from studying in the living room, or other distracting places.

I have a short attention span so I get distracted very easily, by the dumbest things, too. So I usually go to the library on campus. I find myself spending the whole day there and getting a lot of work done without even realizing it. Try it out! Just remember to pack a nutrition snack/lunch if you plan on staying for a while.

You can also try buying a pair of ear plugs to block out even more noise. I use those during exam season and they work like a charm.
ps-key to remembering info: repeating it out loud over and over. It really sticks with you. It got me through many years of hard courses jam-packed with information.

the way i did it was play soft music while I study, classical is the best to help you calm down.

Hmmm? Is there a library, a Starbuck's or a bookstore that you can go to instead? :)

One of my teachers had told me to listen to Baroque music. It's very peaceful and helps you concentrate. He said that it helped his niece and nephew improve their grades. I hope this helps other people. Now when I think of it I have to try it my self.
