Wondering if I have some kind of mental issue?!

Question: I've always been a good student and normal girl. In seventh grade I got my first B. After that I got a bit disorganized and got a few more Bs after rushing to get my Cs up at the end of the quarters. 8th grade has been worse. I just got a D in one of my classes and a C in another. Yet, I don't feel sad or disappointed or anything. I'm only worried about what my parents will say. In the past this would have been cause for me having an all out panic attack. I'm not struggling either, I just don't do my work. It's not because it's hard for me, I even enjoy some of it. I don't know why I don't do my work. And something that's really scaring me: I found out my aunt will die soon and I didn't even care! And I love my aunt! This makes me sound like I'm heartless, but lately when I find out people are going to die I wished they were already dead. I tried to convince myself otherwise, but that's no doubt what I was feeling. It's like I'm numb or something. Please help!

Please go to your school's counselor to talk. You have the symptoms of depression - failing grades, not trying, not caring. And then beating yourself up because you know you DO care and you DO love your aunt. And yes, you are numb. That is normal for what you are going through. Your counselor (even though they appear to be stupid idiots) does have experience at this sort of thing and can talk to your parents for you on your behalf. I know. I've been there myself as a teenager, and there was no counseling available when I was your age. My daughter has just went through it, too. Good luck. These difficult times will pass, OK?

To help you get through it:
*Get more sleep. Seriously, it really does help.
*Get outside more, even though you don't really feel like it.
*Take vitamins like Vitamin C and maybe a B Complex. Ask your parents to help you decide. B Complex helps on your mental focus. It is a vitamin that stress uses up in your body, so you need to keep giving it to yourself.
*Cut back on sugar and caffeine. yeah, I know, but it won't help you right now.
*Journal. You don't have to write in your journal, you can draw or paint. That is what my daughter does - paint in her journal.
*Cry. Give yourself permission to cry in the shower when no one is home. And then turn the music up loud and have a piece of chocolate.

Sounds like something's psychologically wrong... But in terms of grades, they don't matter at all. Just try and keep them up in high school.

Did you ever have a near death experience? After having cancer I just felt happy all the time, stopped caring about things that other people freak out about.

Life is just too good to worry about stuff.

You should try looking in Taoism. If you don't like it, what ever, Taoists can choose not to be Taoist.
