Experiences with a psychologist?!

Question: I was just wondering what good, helpful sessions with a therapist/psychologist should look like. Any input/experience you guys have had (good or bad) with that would be most helpful. (I'm trying to decide whether or not it is actually helpful for me to continue receiving therapy from my psychologist.)

Ive only been to two therapist before. The first one I really didnt like. I just didnt connect to him at all. He didnt look me in the eye. He wasnt very thorough in his diagnosis and he wasnt someone I was comfortable opening up to. I figured it was something I had to endure to get help.
Come to find out he was filling in for the therapist I was supposed to be going to. She was very good. She relied on her intuition alot. Sometimes I would lie about how I was feeling because I was anxious about telling her how I was doing and shed use certain type of questions that were like "hooks" into getting me to open up comfortably. She also wasnt to quick to diagnose which is important because when it comes to something as complicated as the mind you need someone who is open-minded and thorough.
If you want a new therapist you can ask your doctor to refer you to someone else. Honestly, I recommend it because a good therapist can make a world of difference in your life and its not selfish to want to be helped how you need to be helped.

I dealt with a child psychologists.. I found them making a lot of money and doing nothing. I found alternatives ways to help my child without paying weekly by the hour.

I would talk about your most hurtful experiences.

I went to several different psychologists, therapists, and counselors when I was younger, and I found that they dont offer anymore to you than a good friend can. They stereotype you into whatever their books tell them to. They dont look at you as a person. To me, I think you will make more progress talking to someone close to you that you can trust than to a therapist.
