I slipped up.. Big time.?!

Question: Okay so I have been struggling with self harm since fall of last year. I've been cut free for about 3 months and today I screwed up big time and ended up cutting. I don't really know why I did.. Maybe there was something that triggered it subconsiously.. It didn't make me feel like it used to.. Also I'm not really worried about infection because I'm totally OCD about things being clean when I do that kind of stuff... Weird I know.. But it's true.

Also, I'm seeing a therapist -- I was recently told I have depression and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). I guess my point is, is this something that I should talk to my therapist about? Or something that I should just keep to myself?

You should definately talk to your therapist about it. I think it's kind of funny that you think s/he would think badly of you. Your therapist sees people who have all kinds of issues all day. S/he is trained to help people in all kinds of situations. Obviously, you're having a little trouble controlling the problems on your own, so you need to talk to someone. Just keep trying to do better. It's hard to kick a habit and slip ups happen. I used to harm myself as well. Something that I found that works very well to help wean yourself from cutting is a rubberband. Put one or two on your wrist an when your in a stressfull situation, snap it. It's not as bad as cutting but it can still release that feeling that you're looking for. I have been harm free for almost a year. Best of luck. Get well, be happy! And if there is one person you can count on and trust not to judge you, it's your therapist.

Talk to him about it.

You must tell your therapist. You're wasting your time and money if you don't confide in her.

talk to your therapist .Duh. I was depressed at one point and I was put on depression medication but for some reason the medicine made me think suicidal thoughts. I stopped taking the meds and threw them out. I felt a whole lot better. Just keep thinking positive and keep yourself in a good mood. hang in there sweety. good luck

Tell your therapist EVERYTHING. I cant imagine whatever it is that you are going through, just keep an upbeat attitude and think about the future and not the past. Good luck!

OK, it's not enough to seek therapy and just stop cutting. You have to replace cutting with a GOOD habit that you can do instead.

I'm an alcoholic. Not bragging, just admitting it. We call it being a "dry drunk" when you just quit drinking but leave that hole empty inside with no good habit or way to deal with stress to replace it. Sooner or later something will set a dry drunk off and we hit the bottle again.

Now I've learned 100s of coping methods to replace a quart of vodka a day. Email me, i can suggest a lot of them to you to try replacing cutting with. This is a good one. Print this web page out and do the exercise once a day and any time you feel the urge.

It's one way I keep from backsliding.

Don't be too hard on yourself, we all backslide from time to time. It happens. Just take it one day at a time and keep moving forward.

Email me if you want to, I'm a pen pal to a lot of folks, I'd be glad to add you to the list. :-) Life's too tough to do alone.

Absolutely...way to go for courageously admitting what you have here! Bravo to you...for seeking therapy, and staying with it!!! Continue to embrace your confidence, you're doing great! Because you made the choice, of being good to self, responsibly and also choose to remain committed says you have the ability to focus on success, and vision. Your strength will be your reality when it comes to sharing with your therapist. The more you share, the more confident you will become. Knowledge is power! Keeping things secret ...hinders growth. Don't rob yourself, but award yourself, by continually reaching towards that growth. You shall be rewarded for all your effort/s. You want to be rid of struggling...and blossom into a world of happiness, that you are making happen!!! Stick with your commitment...and continue to be true to self...celebrate your achievement/s, thus far...you earned it! You go girl! Hope that helps :) Thanks for asking.

talk to your therapist. and to him

That's what a therapist is there for. Your only hurting and lieing to yourself. If your taking medication ,sometimes that can affect your behavior or if your not on the right medication or any medication at all, that is something the therapist can help you with. Reach out to her, That is her job. God bless you! Please get the help you need.
