Bipolar???? Drugs??!

Question: I have alot of reason to think that I may possilbly be bipolar. I already know I need to seek medical advice but I'm scared. Why is it that when I am in my "lows" I tend to get drug seeking?? I was an addict years ago and got help but don't trust myself when I'm feeling like this.

In my opinion, it is an attempt to self-medicate. Recreational drugs offer an instant gratification, short-term kind of relief...however, long-term they only compound the problem (as I am sure you know). A counselor in the day treatment I went to called it "impulsive, destructive behavior" (not limited to drug abuse).
I have BP and there have been many, many times I just wanted to escape from myself in any way possible.
Don't be afraid to get help...that's what mental health professionals are there for.

Go get someone rational to help you. If you are bipolar and not medicated, you are a danger to yourself and to other people. It's not your fault but it is your responsibility. Go get help!!!!

Don't be scared of seeking help. It's the best you can do for yourself. Especially if you were an addict.

Drugs are a way of self-medicating because they pick you up when you're low but it's short lived and makes things worse.

I've self-medicated with some pretty hard stuff and it did me no end of damage.

My advice don't assume it's bipolar or anything else. Go to a therapist. You're in a dangerous place so do yourself the best favour you can.
