Social anxiety?!

Question: i'm 17 years old,I'm not a very confident person a have a few friends and get on with everyone, and i am fine normally, but when i go into a room full of people (especially people my age) i can feel myself stiffening up and becoming nervous, i also feel vulnerable for some reason. Whenever i speak i seem to mumble. Also when i meet or talk to people i always worry if they don't like me or that they think i don't like them. is there anything i can do to boost my confidence and feel less nervous all the time

First things first..

There can be a lot of reasons for your problems.

For me, it was part of my Asperger's syndrome ( an autistic spectrum disorder).
To others, these may be just anxiety or a trigger from something bad happened previously or nervousness. Only a qualified doctor can diagnose you and arrive at a definite conclusion, but still they can get it wrong, so do your work also.
You ahve made a good start here. If you feel helpless, as in you alone are unable to overcome this, ask for help. Talk to ur parents ( but, they can brush ur problems aside), talk to ur school psychologist, and get a referral to a psychiatrist, if needed.

Also remember, it's easy to go on medications, but difficult to come out of it (in many cases, one example is the highly addictive benzodiazepine class of drugs). But, to some, they are life savers, if used properly. Before taking any medication, do a google search and make a list of its side-effects, so you can look it up when something weird happens. Also, look up into it's withdrawal effects. Remember, you may or maynot have all or any side-effects, but still it's good to know before hand.

Best of luck.

PS: Maybe, it's just that you need to go out more often.

i can so relate to your problem.one thing you need to remember is that people will say bad things no matter how cool you are so stop worrying about what they think and just be yourself
