Why is it that I only like my job when...?!

Question: Why is it that I only like my job when I apply for a different job? I've been at my job for 7+ years...I'm an EDI Analyst...I am excellent at what I do... and I have it pretty well, I have authority, my boss is easy going, my coworkers are great, it's a small company so it's not all "corporationy"...but I get so miserable and bored. The only thing that isn't "great" about my job is that I don't get paid as much as I could somewhere else....so I start thinking about that then I get disgruntled and apply like crazy and post my resume, get an interview, freak out and want to stay at my current job. What is going on?!

You have what is very normal among most people.

You have a fear of leaving your "Comfort Zone".
You can overcome this by just realizing that you have overcome the fear, each time that you have changed jobs.

We all have held some of that in our lifetime.
So, as President Roosevelt had said during the Great Depression, "We have nothing to fear but fear itself".

Don't be afraid to use your skills for maximum pay. There are times that employers use that "fear" to keep an employee at the lowest possible wage. That becomes natural to some employers also.

If you are bored at your job, it sounds like you do not have enough responsibilities to keep you occupied. In looking for another position, emphasize to the prospective employer that you are ready to accept more responsibility.

You go girl!

Good luck.

You can't have it all. Nothing is perfect - including jobs. It sounds like you have a job that most people would envy. Do you tend to focus on the negatives in most areas of your life? I bet it doesn't make you happy - but instead it leaves you constantly dissatisfied. Once, on a show, I heard about research on happiness and a simple task was assigned: each day write about 3 things you are happy for. The participants found that the more they did this the happier and more thankful they were - and the less they focussed on the negatives. You have tested the waters in the employment realm and are reminded that you have a great position.
