What's the difference between depression and bipolar?!

Question: 1. Bipolar is NOT two different personalities.
2. People with bipolar do NOT switch within seconds.
3. Depending on the cause of depression, it may not be 'cureable' and can only be 'manageable'.

Depression is one mood. A person with depression may be sad, self isolate, develop insomnia or hypersomnia, eat too little food or eat too much food. They are at risk for self harm (either with suicidal or non-suicidal intent). It ranges from mild to severe. In the worst form, someone can experience psychosis. It is based both from enviroment and from genetics. Enviromental causes include relationship problems, deaths, abuse and/or trauma. Genetics can from either side of the family and can skip generations.
Bipolar is a spectrum of moods. Classically divided into two moods. The most well known form is bipolar type I. This is defined by recurrent 'highs' and 'lows' known as mania and depression. When someone is manic, it often mimics schizophrenia. High energy, distractibilty, delusions and hallucinations regarding their abilities, risky behaviors, spending sprees, need for little sleep and food. The opposite is depression (which is the same as if it were occuring alone, so see above). There is also what is known as a "mixed state" where someone is both manic and depressed at the same time. From personal experience, I describe it as "being an energetic suicidal". Bipolar type II include depression and hypomania which is a less severe form of mania, often mistaken for being "productive" and often not reported becuase depressed individuals feel "normal".

bi polar is when u have 2 different personalties some times you can be supper hyper some times you can feel down and out
depression your just sad

It's not two different personalities.

It is extreme highs and lows. They used to call it Manic - you would be very happy at one point - then very low the next.

depression iz when ur just sad datz it. u stop eating n feel sad. bipolar however u act differently n u forget all easily.
like u can b happy n next second all mad n then all happy all quickly like dat. n u dont even member how u act.

DEPRESSION IS WHEN U ARE DOWN AND OUT...SOMETIMES (MOST OF THE TIME) DONT TALK ABOUT IT..AND IN SOME OTHER BEHAVIOR LASH OUT...MAYBE ANGER.....BUT AT SOME POINT YOU NEED TO TALK TO SOMEONE....
BI POLAR IS 2 DIFFERENT PERSONALITIES....CAN BE ALL HYPER THEN CRAZY AND MAD...

Depression is cureable.
Bi-polar is manageable.

Bipolar has two lots of symptoms, depressive and manic. The depressive ones are the same as depression.

Manic symptoms can include high energy levels, not needing to sleep, overspending, irritability and psychosis.

Bi polar is "manic" depression not 2 or split personalities.
Its different to depression because that tends to be a continuous low or "flat" feeling whereas people who suffer from bi polar have periods of very low moods int erupted briefly by periods of abnormal elation and feel excited and happy and on top of the world (the manic period)
