My sister is schizophrenic, and she refuses to take her meds, how can I get cons!

Question: conservatership??

unfortunately you can't force her to take her medication. if she is having an episode and is a danger to herself or others then it's best to take her to the ER - they'll make her take them if they assess her as being at risk. if she's not that bad then get her to see her dr or shrink - even if she lies and says she's taking her med's they'll work out fairly quickly she's not and will address the problem.

try making a "contract" with her. ie. something along the lines of 'ok you have schizophrenia, it's essential you take your tablets so you feel better. if you do this then we can do -some activity she enjoys-'.

because of the nature of psychotic mental illnesses (schizophrenia, bipolar etc) there's little point in trying to reason with her. personally speaking i know that when i have an episode and refuse to take my meds the more people hassle me to do it, the less i want to because i'm completely irrational at the time.

btw crushing the pills and putting it in her drink wont work because
a) most drugs used to treat schizophrenia cant be crushed cos of the way they're absorbed and
b) if she is unmedicated she's probably heaps paranoid and won't just accept a drink from you cos she'll think you are doing just that.

crush up the pill, and put it in one of her drinks when shes not looking

Do you mean guardianship? It depends on how old you are and how old she is. Also, if there are any living parents. And just because she won't take her pills isn't a reason. There has to be much more involved.

My heart goes out to you. You need to provide more info. I.E. are your parents still alive and are you referring to a guardianship? Whereas you would be appointed guardian for your sister. How old is your sister and besides being schizophrenic what else are your concerns.

you cant force someone to take meds unless they are in a hospital and commited there.

This might be a conversation to have with a medical Dr, or with
Adult Protection at Social / Human Services.
