Any advice? I have been on citilopram for about 5 years...?!

Question: I was on 40mg for a very long time and I am now coming off it slowly, as advised by my GP.I am down to 20mg and wondered if anyone had these symptoms when reducing the dosage.Tingling fingers, weight gain, bad sleep pattern?

Symptoms of withdrawal include dizziness, tingling sensations, tiredness, vivid dreams, and irritability or mood swings. Youve come down on the dosage, so its like a mini-withdrawal. These side effects are quite common, so its normal, just not very nice!

Dont come off them too fast, let your doctor guide you through it. Tell him next time you see him that you have had these side effects, he may wish to continue you on the 20 mg for a bit longer, it really depends on how he thinks you are doing, so be honest with him and tell him about your side effects when you see him.

I was on citalopram for 9 months. I experienced MAJOR weight gain when I dropped it but that might have been because at the same time I started on a high dose of olanzapine. I am on night sedation so for all I might know it may have normally affected my sleeping pattern. I also had tremors/shaking in my hands for a few weeks.

i found it quite hard to sleep when i was reducing mine...i would be really tired, but when i went to bed i couldnt sleep because my mind would be racing.
it takes a long time to get off these meds unfortunately. dont rush things, especially as you've been on them a long time. its great that youre coming off them though-well done!!
