Well you have to think about it this way. People are not the same. Different people need different amounts of sleep to function well. Its actually more about how many cycles of sleep you have while you sleep. You are just like me I only need 3 to 4.5 hours of sleep to function normaly. Sleep cycles last about 90mins each. So if you have slept 4.5 hours you have gone through 3 full cycles. REM sleep is a very important part of the cycle, this part becomes longer every complete cycle.
I guess people like us start with longer/deeper REM sleep during the first 2 to 3 cycles of sleep. Giving us more restful sleep than the person that needs 7.5 to 9 hours of sleep! Just like hindu and buddhist monks that only sleep 3 hours!!
I hope this sheds some light on your sleep...bad pun but hey!

4/5 hrs per night is average babe

go to your doctor and ask him about a sleep study, you may have sleep apnea, a condition where you stop breathing during the night and it can interrupt your sleeping patterns.

it sounds like you have insomnia. one of my friends was an insomniac but he managed to get medication from a doctor. thats strange that you dont get tired without sleep. but i dont think anyone on yahoo answers can answer a medical question, you should see a few professional doctors. they would know more than most people your likely to get answers from about this.
good luck

some people need more sleep, and others need less, you seem to need the minimum, as long as your not tiered after sleeping only that much, your fine

I know exactly wrong with you.

You are ALIVE
You are enjoying life.

Plenty of time to sleep as you get older.
If you don't feel worn out or tired -
Enjoy life NOW

I was like you at that age. It has been theorized that the hormonal changes taken place during adolescence. I had the same problem during my teen years but as strange as it may sound I was able to sleep longer if I was allowed to sleep during the day. So my mother would let me sleep in late on the weekends. I think it's just temporary, don't worry too much about it, specially if you don't feel tired.

sounds like you,ve got a serious promble you need to keep trying the doc till he finds something that works for you

maybe you just need to find ways to relax more like reading or meditating or if that's not your think watch some more t.v. You'll find if this keeps on your going to revert to sleeping in lots and finding it hard to go to work on time as your body will break down. Speak to your doctor about this.

You're not a lone ranger when it comes to what you mentioned. I usually can only stay asleep four or five hours and then I am up again. I just wake up, poof..
Maybe we are among the people that don't require 8 hours of sleep. It is a well known fact that not everyone needs 8 hours of sleep. If you think it is due to a medical reason, you should talk to a doctor. If things seem fine, why fight it; I don't.

you're bi-polar sweetie. i know b/c i am too. these are all the symptoms. it sounds as though you tend to stay in more of a manic cycle, as opposed to cycling between the high's and lows. the lows can be very bad. but, either way, this is a chemical imbalance, it's typically inherited, and the only way to get better is with medicinal therapy, so, go see a doctor.

cos ur mind is very active . u dont feel tired . thats why u r awake . do consult a doctor if u strongly feels that theres something wrong with u . gd luck

Oh,your life seems so normal.Maybe you should make urself tired and you will sleep quick! Otherwise you should see a doctor!

Make your bedroom only about sleep. If you hang out in there, do homework, talk on the phone and do a lot of other activities, its harder to train your body to go into sleep mode once u go to bed.

Also, try to sleep at the same time every night...A routine will also help your body adjust to better sleeping habits.

Oh! If you're interested, there are also a lot of foods that contain the natural amino acid called 'tryptophan' which act as tranquilizers to the body...they calm you and induce sleep...Some of these foods are: warm milk, chicken, beef, brown rice, nuts, fish, eggs, cheese, fruit, and vegetables.

Probably too much exercise well, did you exercise in the night time? could be your body and brain is still active so make it sure to exercise during in the morning not in the afternoon or night time,Try to take a warm bath before going to bed add some rosemary& lavender essential oil in your bath tub.Perhaps it will help you sleep better.

First off, do you feel tired? Are you falling asleep in class? If not then you are ok. Some people are night owls (like me) who for the last 20 + years like to go to bed at 2 a.m. and wake at 9 or sometimes 10. If you find yourself falling off after lunch, then maybe you can schedule your "free hour" right after lunch and find somewhere to "nap." Other wise you seem normal for you. Just because it is written that it is "normal" to get 8 hrs a night of sleep. It might not apply to you. Whats funny, if I run on less sleep than I get through the week (get 6 hours instead of 8) on the weekends the body seems to catch up for lost sleep and I sleep longer.
What you want to watch out is sleep deprivation, which is when you deny that you need sleep, force yourself to stay awake and get by on as little sleep as possible. Later is is like you have an empty sleep box, which you have not contributed much to. So guess what happens? When you least expect it, you can be driving and you pass out in sleep!
It is like it hits you all at once. You can be doing something else which does not engage all the senses and next thing you know, you doze off. Your body will tell you when your weary.

I am 19 and I have just about the same problem as you. I rarely ever have sodas don't drink coffee, and just perty-much the same variables as you, but I can't get to sleep I only get between 3 and 6 hours every night for about ten or more years. I go to work and do everything just fine not sleepy or anything...but my brother can just be wide awake and talking to me, but the second his head hits the pillow he nocks out lol...it just comes down to some people don't need the same amount of sleep as others..hope that helps

U remind me about my time in engineering..the difference being I got the bout of heavy sleep or no sleep at all.. there were times when i slept on dining table without finishing my plate.. and there were times I couldn't sleep at all.. so i started taking sleeping pills..i got the sleep but never relaxed..since u r only 16 and have no any other problem, I suggest u to do Yoga and meditation..That 'd surely solve ur problem. Being a kid, u must get minimum 8 hours sleep.

insomnia,you think to much.
