Is there a cure for depression? I feel an emptyness now that ive never experienc!

Question: I used to be happy but then my world fell apart and i lost my gf and my job and a lot of friends. Some friends just stopped going out to the pub and lied if they were going out. I find it hard to care about anything anymore and in fact hate more than like things now. I just want to leave this rotten place behind forever and its people. Start afresh in a new setting. i think ive answered my own question but feel free to help. Moving destinations i could choose - money is no object!

I know its hard to beleive this but you may just be suffereing from S A D which is seasonal adjustment disorder i have it and lots of people i know havi it also.I know oyu have lost alot and there is no comparing to loosing somebody you love aswell as your job but do you think you would feel the same if it was summer time?probably not,you probably would be coping alot better. The winter months can make you feel more depressed than you would normally and the dark days and nights make you feel like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. There is!! If you maybee went on a long holiday somewhere with a better climate and more sun for a while it could improve the low feeling you have,it does work,i always try to get away over the winter at some point as i start to feel like life is rotten.
Nobody can wave a majic wand and make you feel 100% better over night and im not a beleiver in drugs as you become dependant on them.Take plenty vitamin c,try to get to a health shop and they will give you natural remedies to make you feel better.Have a sun bed now and then.
If you have a true close friend just ask them to go out not the ones who are false and need somebody to be bouncing off the walls for a night out.(which proves they are not worth your time anyway)
Please please beleive me this time next year you will feel so different to how you do now,its hard for you to see that far but you will.I hope you do go somewher different and if you hate where you live then a change is as good as a rest.
Im thinking of you and wish you lots of luck and hope 2008 can be a possitive start for you,a time to move forward.x

Yes you can get over this

I read somewhere that 30% of depressed people can be cured, and the rest can be treated. That's a really high cure-rate for mental illness. See your doctor.

If you don't want to go down the medication route, try herbal remedies and/or therapy.

You could also try exercise, eating healthily, and if possible, establishing a regular sleeping pattern.

hmmm. you should see a doctor. it probably wont resolve itself even if you move away.
actaully that could cause an even more lonely feeling.
that would be like running from your problem
trust me, ive been through it all.
save yourself some time & money & just visit a doctor & maybe even a counselor?

There is no cure for depression, but it can be controlled. You need the help of both a psychiatrist, who will prescribe you anti-depressants, and a psychologist, who will talk to you and help you to deal with it.

Good luck.

Im personally going through a very similar thing right now, so i will reiterate much of the suggestions and words of advice that i've been given. They say it takes time, and i do believe that and that time heals all things, but its not easy but all means. Try to let go of all past things and move on with your life with a positive outlook. Ive read many self help books that have helped also, one is called "Dont sweat the small stuff, its all small stuff" and it just helps to move on having a positive outlook. Also, if you do have the opportunity to get away for a while by all means for for it and just take some time to find yourself!!

Feel better :)

happiness begins where selfishness ends,of course depression can be cured, sometimes its as easy as changing diets some foods cause brain allergies that lead to severe depression.sometimes it is a simple matter of not doing what you were supposed to do in life your missing your calling or your unfullfilled because of it.

There are different kinds of depression and different ways to treat it.You need to see your doctor first and see what he/she recommends for you.You should NOT make any life altering decisions until you've been treated and have your depression under control because depression alters your thinking process.I know,I've been there.Just keep in mind that it takes a while for any meds to start working. You just need to hang in there! It will get better with time and treatment.Good luck, hon.

Not necessarily cured but definately it is treatable. I have had major depression for years. Went to therapy for about 3 years, was put on meds and I finally was doing much better. At one point I thought I was fine, everything in my life was going in the right direction, I was completely happy. So I decided I did not need the meds before. Wrong!! Without knowing why I sank right back into it. I ended up back at the doctor and he told me that I have a chemical imbalance. I cannot stop taking the meds. It is like someone having diabetes, you always have to treat it. That was over 2 years ago, I now still take meds everyday and accept the fact that I will have to forever. No big deal.
Other people have situational depression, and can have short term treatment and be fine. In order to see exactly what is going on with you, you need to see a psychiatrist and a psycologist/therapist to figure it all out. Not everyone the same. And if you are depressed do not be ashamed or embarrassed, and do not let anyone make you feel that way.

firstly a good long brisk walk can make you feel better. join new clubs what you are intrested in, make new friends xx

Well I am sorry to inform you. This losing your friends is self inflicted. Would you like to go out with someone who is a misery guts.

I suggest you pick yourself up, dust yourself down, and start all over again. Only you can do this. Don't waste any more time moping, there is a life out there and someone else waiting 'just for you.' I call times like you are having a 'A hitch in life.' All hitches can be overcome.

One of the symptoms is thinking of doing or going somewhere else. It like kinda running away in your mind. Until you get your mind in gear you won't do that right thing.

Start at the beginning. Get out now. Go anyway, make new friends, smile and I promise you will never regret that first step. Only then can you think of moving to somewhere else, because only then will you be ready for challenges. Not while you are depressed.

i dont think moving to a new location will solve ya problem. in my opinion the so called friends who you thought were friends were not your friends at all.A real friend would have been there for you and supported you through your difficult times. Its obvious your are suffering from deppresion and if you are not on medication already then i would strongly advise it with counselling.good luck

Hey dude, Ive lost my gf and ive been unemployed for over a year. The first 6 months i felt like you do now, but i found a new high.... running. It is proven that running increases your serototin levels which give you a natural high plus you feel more self confident and have more motivation. Now I feel like i enjoy life. You can do this too. Stay away from booze and drugs if you take either and try to eat healthier and live your life in a different way. It will take time but rather than thinking of relocating, think about conquering your inner demons... sweat them out. Good luck.
