Any ideas on how I might get out of being my own worst enemy?!

Question: I keep coming up with excuses for not doing new stuff.

I'm too comfortable in my rut of work, and I know it. I try to set goals for myself, but it seems like I go out of my way to think of ways for myself to "defuse" their appeal.

It's as if each new idea is written on a clean sheet of paper. I read it, re-read it. Then I take out a red pen and start making corrections. Suddenly the idea becomes a plan, and the plan becomes imperfect, then flawed. Finally I get frustrated, ball it up and toss it in the trash. My "trash can" of such ideas is overflowing.

I guess bottom line I'm too self-critical and edit myself too much, not just editing words I write but my thoughts and actions and aspirations.

Could anyone please offer suggestions on how to defeat my inner enemy?

Try reading "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron.

I'd say don't write your ideas on paper. Write your dreams on paper. Some of the richest people in the world know what happen when you write them in blue ink. Oh, and the reason you don't accept your ideas is because you write them in red. Red may seem important, but in feng shui, it signals stop. Try in a green pen. You'll have surprising results.

Your inner enemy is beside you . Depression is all about friends and family. If you are raised as loner don't spin your wheels trying to impress the winner-players in your life. You need to be safe in a safe place then with one new friend begin to relearn the rules. Any expectations that are not real will destroy you . Be real.
