Hi. I'm Laura, I have an anxiety disorder too. I've taken effexor xr for two separate periods in my life. It works well for me, but even when I'm feeling really anxious I usually sleep ok. First of all if you want to sleep at night then don't take naps in the afternoon. And don't eat/drink anything sweet before you go to bed at night. Don't turn the TV on, that makes you more anxious. Try listening to soothing music or taking a bath before bed. Also make sure you take vitamins. Talk to people, get together with friends and family to distract yourself from the anxiety. Do you get panic attacks? Mine get pretty bad. Although it sounds cliched, you've got to learn to breathe. Deep breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth help you relax. I hope you feel better. I haven't been feeling well lately, I might end up taking the effexor xr a third time. And just so you know, effexor is an artificial hormonal supplement, so it's not addictive. Good luck! E-mail me if you ever wanna talk. Laura5contreras3@yahoo.com... Hablo espanol! =] Take care and best wishes from Laura...

Effexor can actually keep you up at night - it is stimulating in certain ways.

I agree that clonazapam is not a good choice for sleep. There are so many better options. I would get a new doctor and ask about trying a different drug for the anxiety and, if that does not help, Ambien CR for the insomnia. Good luck. (PS If you cannot get a new doctor, have a conversation with the one you have about your concerns and say "I want to work with you to get this to work for me." If you don't say that, s/he may not know you are not satisfied.

Looks like you got your days and nites mixed up...just relax do things that make you feel good. Try getting out and traveling or riding a bike walk something...

chew some Valerian root and get more exercise

if ur sleeping through the day u dont need as much at night i think that might be adding to ur trouble. I sugest u stay wakened through the day n sleep at night, it prob wont work right away as ur body will be use to it so give it a few weeks, gd luk xox

obviously medication isnt working. ask your doctor a safe way to take you off the medication IMMEDIATELY.

depression/anxiety is a result of chemical imbalances in your brain. there are many other ways to alter that imbalance without taking drugs: eating different foods, change of temperature/environment, forming healthier/different relationships with people, exercise etc.

do something DIFFERENT. because obviously what you are doing now isnt working.

Make sure you take the Effexor first thing in the morning. I can affect your sleeping at night. I also take clonazepam to help me sleep. It really helps me but I also do meditation and diaphragmatic breathing. You can learn how at http://www.cchs.net/health/health-info/d...

Practice it when you aren't feeling anxious, two or three times a day, so that when you are feeling anxious, you know how to do it. It really helps.

try deep breathing before you go to bed, it will relax you and help you nod off, plus it will clear your mind of all the thoughts that keep running through it. and don't worry to much throughout the day , that might help to.

How about an herbal tea that relaxes you? The nighty-night tea in the link below is WONDERFUL for calming you down and, in my opinion, works much better than any of the grocery store brand herbal teas. Tastes wonderful too. I bought it for my husband when he was suffering from insomnia.

If your enough to drink before you go to bed drink A LITTLE and that might help.

This sounds like a malfunction in brain chemistry. That is an extremely complicated field. There are doctors who specialize in sleep disorders; they are the best qualified to diagnose and treat such conditions.

I, myself, have no experience in successfully dealing with such a concern; so I can offer no advice more specific.

Try exercising a little bit every day, even if it is only a few minutes; try going to bed a little later than usual. If you can't find the time to exercise during the day, do as I do - exercise before breakfast, right in your bedroom. Best of luck to you, and Happy New Year!
