I gauged my ears.?!

Question: I gauged my ears, first to a 16, and now to a 14 (goal size is 10), and my parents are absoloutly appauled. My mother found out first, and she was out right pissed. she says im mutalating my self. when i tried to explain what it was all about, and that i wasnt going to make them that big, she wouldnt have it. she simply told me i was throwing my life away. my dad found out soon after, and he wasnt too pleased either, but wasnt as blunt as my mom. my qustion is: how can i make myself happy (the gauges some how make me feel better about myself. i used to strugle with low self esteem) and keep my parents from being irrational about it?

it's not self-mutatliation.
infact, i think it's freaking art.
i have mine at 6...surprisingly since my ears are rather small and i have a connecting earlobe instead of a hanging one that is great for gauges. it's not very wise to jump from a regular earring to a 16. when did you get a bigger gauge? it's not wise at ALL to jump every few weeks. wait a few months...it's very very painful if you don't let your ears get comfortable with it, then if you just have one of those gauges that has the little O's on the ends of them and fall off...then it's basically just saying it's used to it...then that's when you should get bigger ones. since you're 14, you don't have a lot of say in the things you want to do...since you're probably only in 8th or 9th....wait till you're a little older to get bigger gauges. just reassure your mom that if you ever wanted to stop the holes will close in a few months (it's 100% true) take out the 14s..wait a week and put back in the 16s. this way, it'll look like a normal stud thingy and just tell your mom you arent going to get bigger gauges if she doesn't act like you worship satan for having gauges. (not that i'm an atheist or anything..but is she a really big christian?? they normally act like it's a big problem..) a 10 for a 14 year old kindda seems awkward.....jus twait till you're older to go bigger.

most likely she will go through with it. if she feels as strongly about it as it seems.

What a sorry situation when parents cannot control and monitor their 14 year old child.

When a parent says NO, it means NO. Sometimes children simply do not have the foresight necessary to make intelligent decisions, particularly those with longer term consequences. This is one such case.

It should never have happened in the first place. The fact that you have to ask whether or not your parents will follow through on consequences is a sorry statement in and of itself - it tells me that your parents don't care enough about you to properly discipline you. This will likely come back to bite them in the butt very soon. They're only getting a tiny taste of it with this silly guaging stunt.

You're basically DARING them to take action. You're begging for some boundaries. Let's hope your parents have the sense to take the reigns.

They absolutely should go through with dispensing the consequences about which you have already been warned. If they don't, they are fools.

Let's hope they aren't fools.

First off, how can they not know....gauging is disgusting and obvious. Sorry for the judgement.

Second, as much as it sucks, your parents basically "own you." You can try to tell them that you are a human being and everything, but to them, you follow their rules.

Last, why were you allowed to get them done if you're only 14? In Michigan, you have to be 18 without a parent to get your ears pierced. I don't know about where you're from, but they have those guidlines for a reason.

Dear Sara, I am glad you know the underlying reason for gauging your ears. It is a form of self-harm. There are other easier ways of improving your self-esteem, and less painful /long lasting too. Promise me you will see a doctor and get a refrral to a psychologist with experince to treat teenagers. Your parents must be feeling desperate, but they need to take you to a doctor. I cannot counsel you on the net , one-on-one therapy is the best.

Well talk to your parents and explain why. I wouldn't go to a 10 maybe just keep it where they are now at least until you know for sure that is what you want and when your parents are more comfortable with the idea. It may take some time but who knows. Yes I do think your mom will follow though with her threat.

goodluck. Parents can hard to take sometimes , just grin and bare it
