Answers: what kind of personality disorder would cause someone to feel suicidal after a relationship break-up?

Hello,

Just because a person feels suicidal after a break up doesn't mean they have a personality disorder. However, it is likely that this reaction/emotional response indicates depression. Suicidal ideation is not an appropriate response to any event, meaning that the person is in need of support and is suffering a symptom or symptoms of a psychological disorder, which would need to be diagnosed by a clinical psychologist or psychiatrist. Getting back to your query about personality disorders, the personality disorder most associated with suicidal ideation and attempt after a break up is the Borderline personality disorder. To add to this, it is possible for other personality types to feel suidical and it would be important again to get a diagnosis from a health professional. Moreover, it is possible that the person may have two or several diagnoses; often those with a personality disorder suffer from a second personality disorder and may also suffer anxiety or depression or another disorder. I hope this information is helpful and if the question refers to yourself or someone close to you, best wishes for recovery :)

possibly depression

It could happen to anyone honestly... but if its a girl, she could be Histrionic.

depression.

possessiveness

It depends, you can't get a Dx with just one symptom.

Hmm - no personality disorder that I know of. Maybe it's depresion or anxitey or just being suicidal...

i am not a dr. but someone could suffer from depression after
a break up, but i would not call depression a personality
disorder.
i can only guess but maybe manic depression or bi-polar
and i can only guess.

Adolescence.

Seriously, this over-reaction to a break-up seems to happen more often in teens and young adults.

Depression, overreaction, etc.

I'd say:

-Dependent Personality Disorder

-Histrionic Personality Disorder

-deep depression

depression often runs hand in hand with OCD because if your thoughts are compulsively on a dead ended relationship with all the associated pains of rejection, and dreams gone up in smoke... that's a lame broken record to play over and over again.
if you feel like you're gonna be trapped like that get a lot of friends to take you out and keep you busy playing tennis or jogging or whatever you like to do, active stuff that will burn up all those moody feelings. Then back up your physical attack of depression with books that will remind you that your life is in your control (i highly recommend the Four Agreements by Miguel Ruiz) or books that are just plain fun. (The Golden Compass is MUCH better read than the movie+ it comes with two other books "sequels?")

I think it's weird, the dating stuff. Why does the body punish itself so much when it fails to mate with someone for life? Why can't you just go "oh well, 6 billion other people to date..."

Early signs of depression, i emphasis on early since i wouldn't say it's depression.

Depression is complex and doesn't involve breaking up with someone as such.
