How do you consistently feel good about yourself when you start feeling desperat!

Question: I start to feel good for a few days. Then when nothing changes in my social status and I realize I am home every night, I get sort of desperate. I mean I like my life (as well as one can with anxiety and depression), I've made progress. But when I don't know how to go up any further, make new friends or date. I don't know where to go. My friends are no help. They have their own lives and most of them don't live near me. I try to make myself happy with my writing and photography. I try to dance and lift my spirits. I try to walk a lot. But I'm repeating the same cycle. I don't know how to go places by myself with my anxiety which is very severe. I don't know how to branch out. I don't know where to go.

you should try doing something new and exciting every week... like change up your plans... you'll meet new people. dont be afriad to take a chance and introduce yourself to the people you meet.

help yourself

do what i do, drink until you can't feel feelings anymore

invite ppl to places to hang out...if they like it they might invite you sumwhere

Look into a mirror and keep telling yourself that you are worthy of a happy life. You are a good person. You deserve happiness. You deserve a good life. You will be happy, blah blah blah. Try that. Good luck.

medication, practice, get a pet, volunteer somewhere, take classes about something you've always wanted to learn to do..

You're doing a lot of positive things here. Maybe this is just a dry spell you're going through. However if this anxiety persists I would contact a doctor.

By taking responsbility for your life and happiness. You are home everynight because you choose to be. There are many things you can be doing instead of sitting, hoping and wishing someone would take you out, care about you enough to ask, show interest and be with you. It all starts with you, cultivate your interests and broaden your horizons. Get active, join a dance group, choir, acting group or some sport. Look up your city events calendar and see things of interest and attend. Go to the theatres, operas, movies, participate in events. Volunteer with some organizations in your community of your interests, could be the arts, children's theatre, ballet something.

In short get your self a life and live it and if the the interim you meet people got out have fun and stop sitting around feeling sorry for yourself.

Having something to look forward to helps, kind of like a light at the end of the tunnel.

Pick an event, set a date, and follow through with it. It could be anything from a movie that's coming out that you want to see to a vacation. Do a little research, figure out how much it's going to cost you so you can save for it if you need to, and mark it on the calendar.

A girlfriend of mine has the same type of problem as you. I'm her only friend in town but I'm married with kids and she's single so our lifestyles are very different and I can't hang out all the time. She keeps multiple goals on her calendar. (Some big, some small) and she says it really helps with her depression if she knows that she has something to look forward to.

get on meds

Emotions has a tendency of going in the cycles you describe as emotions is relative to previous states of emotion and follows thought patterns.
For me being active physically and engaged with things I enjoy helps, as it takes your mind of problems and makes you feel good about yourself to accomplish goals.
Happiness is created in the mind and has a lot to do with how much we believe in ourselves and the future. I think one of the best remedies for depression is love. To give love and to receive it. Some might say a belief in God would give hope and happiness, others that medicine or doctors can.
I think key is that you understand yourself and the cycles to identify what is making you unhappy. I also think that trying to better everything in your life will help you feel better about yourself and viewing the bad feelings as temporary and an opportunity to learn. But on how to consistently feel good about yourself I don't know, for I think everyone has times they are down if there was a simple remedy to feel great all the time I think the secret would become common knowledge quickly. Rome was not build in a day. Just don't give up trying to better things, and remember that if your feelings go in cycles that then there will be sunshine after the rain. Best of luck with it, I believe in you.

First of all, nothing is going to change if you don't change your thoughts and surroundings. You can raise your social status by raising your confidence. You can raise your confidence by looking in the mirror every morning when you wake up and before you go to bed and say one good thing about yourself.

I'm going through something similar (minus the deppression and anxiety). It's just a confusing and difficult time that lots of ppl go through. I wonder if there will be an end to the cycle as well. I sit up at night and wonder how I got into this current situation and how to get out.

Don't really have an answer but hang in there. Everything comes to an end someday this can't be different. Have faith in God (if you believe). Pray that this dry spell will come to an end and that you'll be stronger for going through it.
