Your internal clock is programmed to go to sleep at 5am, you've gotten so used to it that your body is telling you that's when you need to go to sleep, you can adjust it by going to sleep an hour earlier every night until you are on a schedule that feels "normal" to you. Even if you lay in bed and stare at the ceiling you will eventually go to sleep.

go to the doctor and ask about Ambien CR

turn the tv off.

recite gods name or see a doctor

This same thing happens to me, im up now at 4 and i have school, so i know what you mean. Im only 13.

i was the same way.come to find out i needed a routine change .like a hobby.golfing,fishing,etc.your stressed out most likely.take a day or two off from work if you can and go have some fun.

well i heard sex makes people tried...try that....or go for a light jog...work your self tired....it helps me...thats why im answering questions now....lol good luck

I'm sorry to hear about your child. :( I hope they have recovered.
Well, i have my bouts of horrible insomnia also. What i try to do during my periods like that, is take everything that may act as a distraction for me to sleep, and unplug them, turn them off, or put them somewhere where i will need to put effort into getting them out to use them (when i am up during the middle of the night, i am normally too lazy too).
What also seems to help is the old British secret: tea, lol. Sometimes a nice night time blend you can find at the store hits the spot. Also, herbal supplements can help also. Valerian is an herb that promotes relaxation and sleep, so I take those to help knock my lights out early. :P
I don't know what else to say, other than go to bed right now, lol. And hope you solve this problem soon. :)

5 am and here I am so what does that say? lol Sometimes putting headphones on and listening to music helps me doze off.
Maybe a snack, milk , eggs make me sleepy( its the fat in them). A hot bath, not big on mens list but hey it might help.Another thing a few hours before bed excercise, but not right before.
One last thing, I know someone that almost lost a child ( my sister) and she could not sleep when her hubby was sleeping because she "needed" to be up in case the child needed her... just a thought. You might still feel the need to do that and not know it.

This discussion can on for an hour and a half and still get us nowhere because we are all different and required different advice on the problem. The way to solve it is to go to a sleep clinic and they will tell you after testing your sleep patterns what you have to do. At times you can get lucky and get the answer by hit and miss, but it is rare.
The sleep test will tell you what is bothering you.

I guess you just got used to staying up that late. I think the same thing is happening to me because i'm a freshman in all honors classes, sophmore honors classes, and debate and I have to stay up late to get stuff done. I pulled one really big all nighter where i got like a total of 2hrs of sleep all night and I stay up later ever since. I figure i'll do hw early in the morning since i rarely finish otherwise and i'll be up regaurdless. I actually will have to work from 2:30 on tomorrow and am afraid I wont get any sleep at all before school starts. It is hard to get back into the habit of sleeping once you stay up a lot but if you were to try to work hard so that your really tired when you go to bed you'll sleep like a rock. You'll get a better quality of sleep and then be able to make the most of the time you have. You could work out or something so that your tired earlier and can get to actually fall asleep when you go to bed. Also try to relax and clear your mind, a lot of ppl just can't stop thinking which keeps them awake. Just try to make yourself comfortable and hopefully if your tired and comfortable, sleep will follow. I wish I could tell you more but that's all I can say. Goodluck to you.

I had exactly the same problem when I worked 12 midnight to 6 am. Your health is suffering to the extreme, a lot of which is irreversible. You are missing out on cell regeneration, vitamin absorption (women loose estrogen, so perhaps men loose testosterone, I don't know). You have to work out a "relaxation /de-stressing" technique, whatever suits you, and keep away from things that stimulate the brain in the wrong way, i.e. TV, video games etc. Do it on a sliding scale until you can go into a relaxed sleep before midnight. The worst thing you could do is take any kind of sleeping drug, they leave you with headaches, inability to concentrate etc. and if you have an "addictive" personality, no matter what your GP says, they are all "addictive" either body wise or mind wise.

So take care, as eventually it will catch up on you and you won't be fit enough to do your job properly or look after your wife and kids. Use this as an incentive to get back on track.

Why dont you try taking sleeping pills...first try taking over the counter meds and then talk to your doc. I was on a crazy sleep schedule for awhile but taking a few sleep aids about an hour before bed really helps me get through the night. Good luck...I sympathesize with you!
