Bipolar disorder is when you go through extreme highs and extreme lows. The time in either condition can be hours or days. You keep cycling through the moods. You loose what is considered a normal mood. Your doctor can prescribe medications that will level your mood swings. They do not make you level, the make your highs not so high and your lows not so low. The doctor will monitor your medications and your reactions to them. He will explain any possible side effects and tell you to see him immediately if you experience anything out of the norm. Once you start the medication, you should never change your dosage without talking to the doctor first. After all the doctor went to doctor school and knows more about medication then you do. Best of luck.

It when a person experiences extreme mood shifts. From extremely happy to extremely depressed.

I concur with answer #1...extreme mood elevations....take care..

Usually people with bipolar disorder experience 6 months of mania, and then 6 months of extreme depression...

we all have moods swings, but bipolar people have them triggered by NOTHING. It happens on its own, and way worse than the normal highs and lows, or even just depression.

it is a mood disorder which means sufferers don't have the ability to control it. Bipolar disorder is not as simple as just " cycles of episodes of high and low", there are many other BAD feelings and physical problems involved which normal people can't understand how torturing they are
