Yes it is a very good exercise for stress, anxiety and depression and so much better than drugs if you can control it in this manner.

Depends on the source of your depression/anxiety and the effectiveness of your meditation. Relaxation is a time-honored technique both for raising spirits as well as calming the mind. What you need to be careful of is thinking that meditation will 'cure' something if you are only seeing the symptoms, and the underlying cause is not treated.
