Write it out.
It's probably just an anxiety you have and you need to get to the root of it or it will eat you alive.
Writing about it will let you see your thoughts on paper, just start thinking about the thought and then start writing, it's called stream of consciousness, don't worry about what you are writing or of it makes sense, just write and you will find a pattern of thinking that will lead you to the root of your issue.

Well, that's a really good question. It's called obsessive thinking, which is kind of what I'm stuck doing at this point. It's hard to stop thinking about something that has affected your life in a negative way, which is the case with me. Sometimes I think that I am doing better and then I get stuck again. But I would say to try to do things that interest you. If the thought is negative, then try to put a positive spin on it.

First, NEVER say I won't think about that. If you do, every time you let your mind rest, that's the first thing that pops into it. One way around that is to say, I'm going to sit here and think about that for five minutes. If you can't worry about it for five minutes, if your mind takes off in another direction, you are on the road to recovery.

Second, you should apologize to yourself for picking on yourself. I know that sounds stupid, but your mind is not on your side, so apologizing is a way of getting it to stop behaving in a way that you don't want it to.

Third, meditation. Get a book on meditation, and when you really can't stop thinking about something, meditation can help. For example, one morning, I had a list of six things I had to do that day. My mind would NOT tell me which I should do first. I tried meditation, and at first my mind kept telling me that I had to do everything, right now! But, after about five minutes the damn thing stopped talking about anything. It literally shut up! I sat there another 15 minutes enjoying the quiet, and then there was only one thing that my mind suggested that I do.

I did that, and the next thing, and so on, and the day went fine. From then on, anytime my mind started picking on me, I would meditate because the only time it picked on me was when I wasn't busy being distracted by other things and I, therefore, had the time to meditate.

I think that's why 100 million iwhatsis's have been sold. To occupy peoples minds so their minds don't attack them with the "Shoulds." But, the car radio, and an iwhatsis are only band-aids, not cure. They prolong bad mental health.

That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it!

Eleanor Roosevelt is credited with saying, The past is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. All I have is today. That's why it's called the Present. Stay in the NOW, and neither the past nor the future will bother you. I try to do that and with practice, I get better at it.
