How can I get my doctor to talk to me?!

Question: I feel frightened posting this in such a public forum, but maybe someone here can help me.
I am a fully-functional working adult (employed as a teacher and am well-liked by coworkers and students). I haven't always been this way... after graduating from college (barely, because I was too frightened to go to my classes), I found that it was impossible for me to hold down a job because I had panic attacks every time somebody looked at me. I went to see a doctor, who diagnosed me with agoraphobia and PTSD. She prescribed Zoloft, which over the years has turned my life around.
I'm almost out of my medicine, and every time I call my doctor's office to get an appointment, they say she can't see me, that they don't know who I am, and that she isn't seeing new patients. I'm sure it's a mixup, but I've left her several messages and she never returns my calls. I'm at a loss.
I convinced the pharmacist to extend my meds 1 month while I figure out what to do. I'm really frightened...

I would see your Primary Care Doctor. Ask for
a referral to a psychiatrist. These doctors can
prescribe meds, and I think you will have better
luck with keeping your medication in check.
Primary doctors usually don't like to get involved with Mental Health Issues, like prescribing medication. But if you need a referral for one, you will have to see your primary first. As far as people finding out, I wouldn't been to nervous. Have you ever heard of "Hippa" privacy polices. They are so strict these days, that I really don't think you need to worry. If you need to talk, email me.

Your best bet is to show up IN PERSON at the office. The squeaky wheel gets the oil. It's easy to ignore or avoid a phone call. A person in front of your face is a different matter. Stay until the mix up is straightened out. Bring in your script bottle with the doctor's name as "proof" that you are a patient of his/hers. You might also want to have the pharmacist phone the doc for a refill. At least that way, they have "pushing" coming from two directions.

Best of luck,
~M~

p.s. In the meantime, set up an appointment with your general doctor. Explain the situation, and request that he/she fill the script until you can get back in with your psychiatrist.

p.p.s. If you drop the words "HIPAA" and "continuity of care violation", you may get quicker action.

Is there no other doctor you can see?

So, what your telling me is your shrink all of a sudden "mysteriously" doesn't know you or remember you at all? Was it all a bad dream or a bad trip from drugs? If you really did see this shrink I'm guessing for some reason she is too scared to see you again. Maybe those confessions or fantasies you two spoke about was just two much for her. I think a new shrink is in order here. Try going to your local E.R. and explaining to them about the voices in your head and all the evil things they want you to do to the president of the U.S. You wil lhave a full psych evaluation and get the right meds and treatment you deserve!!

It's very possible that the "receptionist" HAS BEEN getting your perscription filled, but taking them herself, and now it's a full blown, out of control, situation, where She had had to pretend to be you, and could very soon have to take even more drastic measure to eliminate you all together, yet not let your lifeless body ever be found, thus cancelling the ongoing perscription... and I'm thinking if this is the case, that receptionist ought to see a doctor.. they make medicines for wacky people like that!!

i can see you. i'm your co-worker and i'm telling the pharmacist and everyone else. are you TTC???
