Can a therapist diagnose someone with a personality disorder or mental illness?!

Question: let me know.

Answers: let me know.

Absolutely.

Yes, they just can't write prescriptions. Only an MD or PsyD can write prescriptions.

Therapists including psychologists, clinical social workers, clinical nurse specialists and Nurse Practitioners can assess and diagnose mental illnesses.

Prescriptions are managed by physicians, PAs, Nurse Practitioners and, in some states, psychologists and clinical nurse specialists.

if you are honest about what u are going thru and what feelings/emotions you are having, then yes they can be helpful. But goto a trained therapist or psychologist as a psychiatrist is just a pill dispensing idiot. most of the time people dont need the meds the doctors push on us. remember though if you don't like the therapist you are going to then find one you are comfortable with. you are paying them, if thats the case.

Yes -everyone that can depend on the laws of each state.

I live in Canada, and things, I'm sure, are different world wide.

I would suggest you find out what type of therapists are permitted to diagnose mental illness in your location.

Therapist can cover quite a broad range of training and skill, so I'd be sure to investigate whose hands you are chosing to put your mental health in.

definitely..that's their job..although
psychologists mostly talk

psyCHIATRISTS do most of the diagnosing
