I am looking for input on hopspitals for Borderline Personality?!

Question: Hi Jess

Having been diagnosed with BPD last April I am in the hideous position of being left floundering for help due to the appalling help available on the NHS.

However I have since learnt about the Henderson Hospital. I live in Edinburgh and would rather have help here but realise is not available.

Any forums or support groups you can point me to will be hugely appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Dear Janey

I am so sorry you are in this position.
The forums i know of for BPD are as follows:
http://www.mhsanctuary.com/borderline/bo...
http://forums.healthyplace.com/ubbthread...
http://www.psychforums.com/viewforum.php...

I can not recommend any of them personally as I have only browsed as I have not recently felt the need to use them - but they may be able to help

There is so little - if any- help to be had on the NHS currently for PD or BPD. Also little - if any - understanding by the society we live in .And little support or help even from local community mental health teams by those who really understand what PD or BPD means and how to help you.
I wish I could be more positive.

There are only three NHS units I know of for PD and BPD and one of them is faceing closure and the others are under threat.

So I can only say that I do not know of any help for your current needs in the area where you live and to say even though it is so far from you, if you can get into the Henderson - while it is still there - it might be your best option.

I say this because I was a patient - they call/called us 'residents' at the Henderson many years ago in 1976 and it completely changed my life.I have been pretty much fine since
It was the best thing I ever did and I have never looked back -And I know many people with PD and BPD have been very successfully helped by the Henderson over the years.

However the Henderson is under threat of closure so you may not have too long to take up this option see the following information on this :

Join our campaign to keep it open if you can

The only other places I can think if is the Cassel : http://www.wlmht.nhs.uk/services/c/casse...

Which unfortunately for you is also South of London?

But I think 'Main House' is still operating in Birmingham ( it is an offshoot of the Henderson) http://www.personalitydisorder.org.uk/in...

I so wish I could offer you more - but this is the problem, not only is there so little for those with PD & BPD what exists is now under threat of closure.

There is a total lack of understanding of PD and BPD and the needs of those of us who suffer it.
My heart goes out to you. All I can do is reiterate, if you can get into the Henderson do so now while it is still there. Or try Main House or Cassel

Update

I jsut got this input from a group I belong to and I hope it helps:

Scotland is fast becoming very PD minded and there are several options open to you. Borderline UK have initiated an Edinburgh BPD support group which meets on a regular basis. Contact Naomi Salisbury, doricgirl@yahoo.co.uk for further details. Alternatively, you can access Borderline UK
