Lexapro...thoughts?!
Question: My Dr. wants to try me on lexapro..basically, I have anxiety/post traumatic stress that causes insomnia. He had given me xanax to help sleep on nights that I need it and it works like a charm...but I hear that it is highly addictive and in only one month I have found myself needing it to fall asleep...(I think it's a mental thing)
If you have been prescribed lexapro...what was it for...did it help? Side effects? ANY info is helpful...I hate taking med's when not necessary but will in a heartbeat if it can help w/ anxiety and stress.

well i guess if meds really help u, take them. i personally was proscribed effexor for headaches and mild depression. iwas on it for 1 and a half mths, and never had a headache when i used to have bad ones at least 4 times aweek. then i noticed that i was feeling down, and had no emotions, kinda like i was numb and didnt care about anything. so i decided to get off. i tried and immediately after missing a dose i was dizzy and nauseous and many other horrible side effects. so my doc prescribed lexapro. that changed nothing and i just wanted completely off all meds.....it took me 3 weeks of feeling HORRIBLE i mean beyond HORRIBLE to even feel remotely better. i was dizzy constanly, and constantly had to lay down or sleep, and threw up....this showed me how good i really had it, and to not take feeling ok for granted. i never thought this nightmare would end. meds never helped me, and i read many many websites with millions of people who went through the hell that i did tryin to get off these DRUGS. id rather have my panic attacks and anxiety anyday over everything else.
good luck to you if it works though, i wish u all the best....
works really, really well...I recommend it - no side effects
I have, mine was for depression, I didn't have any side effects and it worked!
First of all, everybody is different.
My office prescribes alot of different meds, but lexapro seems to work really well. I hardly ever get calls from pts telling me of problems or bad side effects. One thing, most people with a weight problem report that they lose weight, which makes them very happy. Usually it takes the 20mg for people to have desired effect. Good Luck!
i hated lexapro. i couldnt have an orgasm, and it made me feel like a robot. it also did the same to all of the other females that i knew who were on it. we were in iraq and that is what they were passing out for depression
I love my lexapro! I have been on lexapro for a little over a month , I had some minor side effects the first week (I was a little jittery, but I think it was more mental than anything else), but after that I was fine. It helped that I gradually upped my dosage, I started at 2.5 for one week, then 5 mg the next, 7.5 mg the next, and leveled off at 10 mg. I have a panic disorder, lexapro has given me my life back, I wasn't able to go anywhere on my own and was averaging about 6 panic attacks a day, I lived in fear of my next attack. I have only had 2 panic attack since I started taking lex, and they both occured in the first week, and the drug takes a full month to start working, now I am panic free!
I dont normally have issues w/ side effects but I did with Lex.
I had "palm sweating" which is completely random untill I read the side effects and that was a top one listed.
For a non addictive sleep aid - any doctor will tell you benydryl allergy medicine!
I have issues with anixtey too (used to do the med thing). One thing that will help you is emlinating stress, try soothing things like yoga.
I know when I start to feel anxious, I do sit ups, jumping jacks or crunchs. just a few to get rid of that burst of energy, then my mind clears out and i can think about the actual problem and deal with it up front.
I've been on Lexapro for almost 3 years for depression, and it works awesome! It helps mega, no side effects at all. I would recommend it if your dr. wants you to try it.
