I thought a 5150 hold was for 72 hours. Why was Britney Spears out in less than !

Question: I know this is tabloid, but Spears went in Thursday night and was released Saturday. If she truly has mental health issues, why were they not diagnosed during the 5150 hold and why was she released before the 72 hours were up?

They can hold you UP TO 72 hours to conduct a psychological evaluation - not MANDATORY 72 hours - that's the TOP LIMIT under that "Welfare and Institutions Code" section.

Yea, if the doctors feel you are fit/competant to be release in less than that time, they can do it. It all depends on the doctors.

you can be held up to 72 hours for evaulation. just because they diagnose or find issues does not auto hold person. if person has doctor or is under care, probably would be released. or they do not feel she is truly harmful to herself or children, or she has drug issues, many many reasons for release. But the main reason is for evaluation.....They may make recommendations, etc...
