Are there jobs in a hospital that include mental health?!

Question: I want to be in the medical field but i really want to include a therapy/ consoling/ psychiatrist and anything to do with mental health. So my question is that in a hospital are there jobs with mental health involved??

Thank you in advance

There are medical social workers in a hospital. They help patients and families deal with bad news, death and other emotional issues of what is going on. They also refer people to resources that can help them while they are dealing with their medical issues.

Yes, they're called psychiatrists.

yes. to have it confirmed, try to check the administration office in the hospital concerned. :)

I'm a nurse and have been in Psychiatry for 31 years. It is rewarding and no two days have ever been the same! KJL

My father became mentally disabled just over a year ago. He lives in a long term care home. It's not a hospital but it does have RN's as well as volunteers. I am pretty sure there is a doctor that does rounds and there are recreational therapists. There are also physiotherapists employed in some LTC homes (my father has been to a few). I am sure there are the types of jobs you are looking for out there. God knows I wish my dad was so lucky to have someone evaluate his mental health. A program that does that is not covered by the regional health plan and it costs 6,000 dollars. Yikes.

I just have to say thank you for being interested in such a position. I think North America needs more nurses, doctors, and therapists (of any kind), and they deserve much more pay than they're getting.

Yeah, I do mental health work in a hospital, I really love it!

It all depends on whether you want to work in a psych ward or with non-psych patients. There are lots of jobs for people in a psych ward that is within a general hospital system, and there are jobs in psych hospitals (such as Bellevue, McLean, Austen Riggs). Then there is a field called "health psychology" where psychologists work with people who have physical health problems.

Without a graduate degree, you can be a mental health counselor/mental health specialist. With a graduate degree, you can be a social worker, or a psychologist, or a psychiatrist.
